"Fastnachsbrunnen" is a sculpture recently revealed (1967). It celebrates the joy of life. This fountain represents city tradition too. A very special architecture and very impressive in term of size.

Just along the main plaza from the Markt Platz. The fountain is surrounded by benches and lots of stores and food vendors. A very popular place for locals to gather.

This statue, 9 meters high consists of 200 small figures made of bronze , and mostly figures of carnival actors . You find it going down from the st . Stephan church .

Worth a 10 minute look, tribute to carnival. Pretty, nice fountain and a few mallard ducks. Worth a look if you are nearby

Absolutely beautiful. Mainz is one of my favorite cities in Germany. You can grab a cone of ice-cream and sit and enjoy this view.

I visited this fountain with friends while on a walking tour around Mainz. The unique theme of carnival masks is worth having a few photos.

Kind of a unique looking fountain. But it was not working. Kind of detracts from the experience. But worth seeing.

From Nov. 11th to Ash Wednesday in late Feb. or March is Carneval time in much of Europe. This statue epitomizes the festivities happening. Go and look all around it at the many details. We were there in January, so the fountain wasn't working, but...More

... and summarizes the carnival in Mainz quite nicely. Spend a couple of minutes to have a close look at all of the figures and you will really appreciate this piece of work. Check out Wikipedia for a description and history.
