Beautiful Views
Aug 2019
Had a wonderful day out on the passenger ship Saarstern with beautiful views along the way.
Passing the wine villages of the Saar, the journey took us through untouched nature.

Lovely river
Jul 2019
We are just back from a AMA River Cruise on the Moselle and Rhine. The Moselle by far was the most beautiful. The towns and villages were lovely, lots of see and wonderful food and wine.

Fantastic river cruise with MV Virginia
Jun 2019 • Couples
Just returned home from our second cruise on the MV Virginia, booked through Shearings. What a fantastic way to see one of the most beautiful parts of Europe cruising along the Rhine and Moselle (Rhein and Mosel). The ship is fairly old but extremely comfortable, and the crew are friendly and helpful.

Highlights of the cruise were visits to Cologne, Koblenz, Traben-Trarbach , Reichsburg Castle, Cochem and day trips to Bernkastel-Kues, and Beilstein.

We would highly recommend this type of relaxing holiday, sit back and let your hotel do the traveling! Great support from Shearings staff, cruise manager Ken and driver Trevor.

Great river cruise !
Oct 2018 • Couples
We have done the Rhine-Mosel cruise on the Amadeus Royal last fall and we have enjoyed every minute of it ! We have driven along the Mosel for 10 days in 2017 and we had seen a lot of beautiful sights but seeing it from the river had quite a different perspective and enabled us to see things that we would otherwise have missed !

Fred Olsen River Cruise, would we go again NOOOOO.
Apr 2018
We felt all they were interested in is taking your money re tours and Gratuities. Don’t get me wrong, Amalia,George,Mariela and the waiters were excellent. But Lee was a total waste of space, he’s lazy and lies a lot, it looks like he’s been doing the job to long and complaisant with his position. We found our own way round when stopping at moorings for less than a third of there prices.
The room was very pleasant and cleaned every day.
For the cost it wasn’t worth it. Others who were on board that have been with other companies stated that this Cruise overall was the worst.

Just returned from a 10 day cruise on the rhine and moselle it was brilliant, the food was very good, our tour guide was excellent, her name was gill and our coach driver was excellent his name was lee, nothing was too much trouble.we travelled with national holidays. We had a really good time, and the places we stopped along the river was very pretty and the scenery was spectacular. Ice cream is a must at these stop offs, delish.the cruise boat was small but well designed, prices for drinks were much the same as the UK. I would definitely recommend this holiday, personally I have enjoyed this holiday far better than a sea cruise, much more tranquil.

Super for canoeing
Jul 2018 • Family
We rented three canoes at Mosel Kanu verleigh in Reil. The river flow is nice and slow. We saw several swans and enjoyed watching the river boats go slowly by.

Some Good - Some Bad - Some Awful
Aug 2017 • Friends
My wife and two friends have just returned from a week on the MV Virginia on The Classic Moselle cruise. We opted to fly from Heathrow to Cologne. We flew with Germanwings from Terminal 2. The airline and all the arrangements for both outward and return were excellent. Could not praise both terminal 2 and the airline enough. A Shearings rep met us at Cologne on arrival and transported us to the boat. We had upgraded to main deck on the boat and checking in took just a couple of minutes. Our adjacent cabins were in good order with plenty of storage space, two single beds, large wardrobe, two large draws under one of the beds and space also under beds to store cases .Bathroom was a wet room with shower, toilet and sink. Ours was preety good and did not flood as much as others we heard about.
Food - Breakfast was always good, plenty of choice of either hot or cold, fruit etc. The other two meals each day were on the whole quite poor. Lunch always Soup, Main and Dessert. The evening meal was the same with the addition of a pre starter. During the whole week we never had a fresh vegetable, always tinned or bottled. Main courses tended to be Pork or Chicken. The best meal of the week for me was the lunch which had Nasi Goreng as part of their Indonesian buffet. With each meal Lunch and Dinner we had two free drinks of either Wine/Beer or Soft drink. This we did not know about before so was a pleasant surprise.
The Itinerary was interesting apart from Day 6/7 when we were moored overnight in Alken. Alken was not interesting in any shape or fashion, just a short street with a few cafes and ice cream places. We had two included trips on the cruise and took advantage of both of these. The first was a trip to the Ahr valley, we had an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable on the area. The second trip was to Bernkastel which was fantastic as it was the towns Wine festival and was packed with people/bands and much merriment.
We had good entertainment on board, quizzes every day, the crew put on the very funny show one night and two nights we had local German entertainers who were very good. The staff were all excellent, spoke good English and extremely helpful. The Shearings Rep on board was also quite entertaining but at times did seem a little unorganised.
Overall we enjoyed our trip, unfortunately the weather was not the best but that is not Shearings fault but I must say the standard of food in this day and age was abysmal.
