Tired but satisfied I write this review. The school vacation are over here in this part of Germany and it shows. The zoo is almost empty except for a few classes. Here and there a lost tourist like ourselves. The weather isn't cooperating at first, but after a bit of patience and some rain showers we can go for it.  A small warning. It is climbing and descending in this fine zoo. My condition is anything but, but the animals make up for everything.

The zoo is very clean and the animals are pampered. Where I thought the leopards had a small enclosure, it turned out that they still had a passage to quieter places when the happy shrill voices of children become too much for them. But that is not the case now and we get to see these beautiful animals in their full glory. Soon after the elephants follow kangaroos, monkeys, ostriches, Siberian tigers and for me the icing on the cake are the penguins and sea lions. There is so much more to see. But my legs are tired and my heart is satisfied. I can only recommend this zoo. Shame the restaurant was closed but I suppose we had some bad luck here. No problem. If we ever come back in the area, I would love to visit this zoo again. Have fun to the future visitors and don't forget to enjoy all the beautiful things this zoo has to offer.

We visited today, it occupies a large part of land in a nice looking part of Wuppertal, plenty to see, all animals looked both healthy and happy, plenty of catering options too.
It's not the best for wheelchair visitors as the Zoo is built on a hill, I'm sure that could easily be overcome however as all footpath to the animals are in tip top condition....

Would return...

We went to the zoo with a band of three kids - 9, 11, 13.
The zoo is in a very nice part of Wuppertal where there are plenty of Jungendstil houses. The zoo itself is set in the woods on a hill, making it quite pretty.
There are plenty of animals to see - we found them happy and healthy! In particular there was a spider monkey that was jumping around and showing off to our amusement.
The bird part was excellent - really neat.
The penguin part was superb as you could go underneath and look at them swimming around.

The zoo of Wuppertal really is a place to go, when in town. There are a lot of animals to see here, everything is well maintained and from time to time out can see the improvements and renovated habitats.
Throughout the zoo you have small kiosks to get drinks and snacks from, in the heart of the zoo, next to the elephant house you can also find a restaurant.
The prices are fair and getting here by public transport (Schwebebahn, Bus and train) is easy and fast. If you want to come here by public transport, buy the Zoo Kombiticket, it includes the entry fee for the zoo and a day ticket for public transport in Wuppertal and surrounding cities, at the price you usually pay for the entry fee only.

Arrival to the place done via the Wuppertal Schwebebahn (Zoo/Stadion station). That already was hell of a fun!

Entrance fee was reasonable. The place is fostered with care by it's employees. Everything is in it's right place, and whenever you feel like, you have enough space to sit and relax. Penguin's cave is a must (and a cooling room also), Lion's cave is unbelievable, rope bridge was also lots of fun...there's plenty of things to do (see photos attached).

One warning though: if you can't climb a pretty steep incline, don't even bother to enter. The whole place is set on a mountain slope and there is no transportation to the top.

Went to the zoo not expecting much at all but was really pleasantly surprised. It was really cold so some of the animals were in hiding but there was a really nice range and some great displays. The animals seemed well looked after. I would recommend this zoo as a little hidden gem if you're in the area. One word of warning though, it's incredibly hilly so if you struggle with walking be aware it might be hard to get about.

An excellent zoo right in the middle of Wuppertal city. Really easy to reach on the Schwebebahn. Numerous animals here. A few areas a bit run down but nevertheless a great day out with children. Quite hilly.

This zoo has a beautiful and it is like walking through a park the whole time, up and down hills so it is a good workout. Many animals seemed to be posing just for us.

The zoo has the largest lion enclosure (if thats the proper word) ever made in German zoo's. Its just under 2.5 acres ( approx 10 thousand square metres). The enclosure is on a rather steep hill but its worth visiting. I can also recommend the whole zoo.

Located on hill slopes, Wuppertal zoo is really beautiful and well managed. There is 100s of animals to see, and great jungle to walk up and down. Of course, when travelling with little kids, it becomes extra fun, as they are very curious of everything. Since a half day was bit enough, I would visit again.
