Oberhausen prooved to be more a shopping city than a cultural one. Knowing this, this museum was our rescue during our 2-day visit to this city. The exhibition that showed Marilyn Monroe through her main photographers was entertaining and It'll appeal to a lot of people. Nevertheless we were a bit disappointed that the museum had nothing else on show, like their own collection. We also had liked to go to the Gasometer, hut it appeared to be closed till March. Therefore this museum was the only cultural activity to do in the whole city.

My family now lives near the Ludwiggalerie so whenever I visit I generally drop in. This time visited an exhibition dedicated to "Fix und Foxi" and Rolf Kauka's publishing house. This is typical for the kind of exhibition that the Schloss Oberhausen/Ludwiggalerie offers, usually with an emphasis on interesting pop cultural aspects that easily get overlooked but had a strong connection to 20th Century German culture. Entrance fee is maybe a bit on the steep side unless you qualify for a range of discounts. An hour is probably the average time you spend there. Nicely situated in a little green spot in an otherwise widely industrial area.

The exposition is not free and fairly small too. You also have to pay for the parking place if you're not willing to walk from the Gasometer. I don't think it's really worth the time and money - especially after I saw the impressive collection of Folkswang in Essen for free.

We visited the gasometer and purchased the air package experience which included a visit to the ludwiggalerie. It is a good 15 mins walk from the gasometer and very badly indicated ,we were in a rush to take the train back and it was pouring down. When we arrived and realized it was only 1 small room with 4 drawings, we were not pleased. The gift shop has loads of lovely stuff though and the guy there was very friendly, that's why they got 2 stars because the 'exhibition' we saw was only worth 1 or none.
