From the top of the Gasometer one gets an excellent view over the densely populated Ruhr area. Inside there was a nice light show, and at the bottom levels there was an exhibition of copies of famous paintings, with descriptions/explanations. I believe this exhibition was temporary. A good way to preserve industrial heritage.

The Gasometer itself is quite impressive. Nowadays is being used for expositions. The last one that we saw was very interesting. On the interior of the gasometer they have installed a light show which is very notable. You can grab a couch and relax enjoying the light show and the music. Very recommended visit.

Splendid view over the Ruhr area. Nice lightshow. Just relax in one of the fatboy. Close your eyes & enjoy. Just one tip to the organizing team... @gasometer: add some colors to the show.

We spent a week in the Ruhr area visiting historical sites and for us this was the highlight and an object lesson in the creative use of old industrial buildings. The bottom of the old gasometer has been turned into two floors housing art exhibitions - the one when we visited was entitled ' The Appearance of Beauty'. This was... More

This is a renovated industrial size gas container/holder, that spans 100 metres high. A very good initiative to reuse an industrial site, and create an exhibition space on many levels. The entry fee of €9 per person is not exorbitant, considering what we saw. Der Shone Sheine (the beautiful illusion).. a collection of world famous paintings, printed onto glossy boards,... More

Not really special, the inside have a sort of lightshow and an exposition from art ( copy's ). But on a clear day the view from the top is great.

The Gasometer has trendy themes from all around the world. The last theme was amazing and its always well worth the money. Even if its just for the stunning view. If you are around, go check it out.

When you want to understand what was going on in the Ruhrgebiet before and how things changed, this is the place. Take a walk on the outside stairs and you will see the whole area. But also the exhibitions inside are brilliant, because the building is so unique.

In Oberhausen for a concert we were looking for something else to do. Not wanting to do the standard tourist things like SeaLife and the security exhibition we went to the Gasometer instead. This was one of the highlights of our holiday - an amazing art exhibition with English labels and an English audio guide, a fabulous light show in... More
