This is a huge green lush park filled with all kinds of flowers and trees. It is beautifully maintained. You can explore it again and again and discover new and beautiful spots. A membership, if you live in the area, is well worth it. There are amazing meditation gardens, a waterfall, places to eat surrounding it (try the currywurst!!), an... More

Gruga park is a lovely place to stroll, look at the variety of gardens, including a large tropical green house, or just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Grugaleuchten happens once a year when artists create illuminated installations within the park. It's extremely popular so if you fancy it, go early and allow for huge traffic jams!

This is a place I regularly take people to see and it never disappoints. Beautiful nature and would be good for kids as there is a lot on offer!

It was sunny day and we had a nice relaxing trip and picnic here. You can bring your book and lunch. It is big enough to walk.

This is a great place to go for a long walk and relax. It's not far from Essen city centre and there are plenty of trams and buses if you don't feel like driving

We visited on one of the recent scorching hot days. It was busy but still felt relaxed. Lovely spot to walk around, looking at deer and owls and getting sprayed down in the rainforest greenhouse was a treat! Entry is 4 euro, worth it when you go to spend the day there.

Essen was always a green city (even at the time when the coal mines were in operation). There are public parks where you don't pay - and there is the Gruga which is a it special. It' s a man made park, it has been in existence since 1929 and it has been modifed throughout the years. It's open every... More

I live nearby this park and love to take a stroll through it regularly. There are lots oft nice flower beds as a gardener class is taught there and plenty extravagant flowers can be seen. You can simply sit on the grass with your friends, go for a walk or jogging, visit the animal compound (birds, deers, ponies) or have... More

Grugapark is a traditional city center park area with flowers, green, trees and animals, art and playgrounds. Everything you need for an afternoon or sunday morning. It is no must have been compared to other attractions nearby or other city center parks.
