Marktplatz is one of the most beautiful squares in Dusseldorf, famous for the location of the beautiful Renaissance Rathaus and the stunning and impressive equestrian statue of Jan Wellem ,its also home to the biggest and best Christmas market in Dusseldorf.
We were in Dusseldorf over the Christmas period and a visit or three to the Marktplatz Christmas Market was always on the cards ,its so good ,lively and very festive and extremely popular with both locals and the hordes of tourists that descend upon Dusseldorf during the run up to Christmas.
I love the architecture, it's so beautiful, I also love the pubs, bars and restaurants not just on the square but in the streets leading into the square, a beautiful square, most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a trip to Dusseldorf.

On the square where the town hall is located, there is a Christmas market during Advent that prevents you from being able to experience the square in all its glory. There are also a number of works on the buildings around the square.
The Christmas market on the square is definitely worth it.

Booked a night away yesterday, December 21, 2023, with the aim of visiting the Christmas markets in Düsseldorf. Finally, after a long time of hard work, some time for each other. What a rude awakening we came home from (Christmas market). We got there at 3:30 PM and not a single stall was open. Not even where there is normally music. And there was nothing indicated anywhere. It's a shame if you come here specifically for this and also book a hotel. It also said on the internet that it was open as usual.

This was a great area of the "old City" to visit a nice mix of History and small shops to browse through.

This was the location of one of the six Christmas Markets we visited while in Dusseldorf. We really enjoyed walking around and people watching. They offered a great selection of food and drink.

Christmas Markets in Germany are always wonderful. This one is one of the nicer ones, I think....but then again, they're all nice! Each with it's own spirit.

A nice looking historical building with a great sculpture. It's a place to clam down a bit while drinking, eating, and checking out the busy area there.

Cannot miss him atop his horse as you stroll through the shopping district in the old town. European history never forgotten.

Hi ,
I am travelling to Düsseldorf for the day to the Christmas markets in December . Is there just one Christmas market or a few ? How is the best way to get to these from the airport please. ?

You can find the market in Heinrich-Heine-Platz vorm Carsch-Haus, in der Düsseldorfer Altstadt-Flinger Straße, Marktplatz and Stadtbrückchen.
The schedule will be at 17th November-23rd December 2016 (11 am-8pm, weekend closing until 9 p.m.). In between there Is what German people called Totensonntag 20.November 2016, it'll Be closed.
I'm sure there are many public transports to reach the places, just stop near those streets I have mentioned then walk a bit. Anyway, most of the times we drove around Düsseldorf by car, parking tickets were more expensive than in a village we stay.
