Worth a wander around this part of the city. Good to walk round the shady squares and streets. Plenty of cafes to stop at. Particularly recommending the old station cafe/restaurant. Brews it’s own beer and has a great shady garden
A quick tram ride over the bridge from the Old Town side of Dusseldorf brings you into the Oberkassel district of this vibrant city that offers some great sites and experiences.

Just a short walk over the bridge from the Aldstadt is Oberkassel. We loved walking along the river and through the neighborhoods to see these "upscale" neighborhoods. Great restaurants. Small areas of Christmas markets. If you are in Aldstadt and have the time, definitely take...More
Hi to good old Germany, I lived in Dusseldorf for for more than 10 years. Left Germany in the year 2000 to sail around the world. Now I settled down in Malaysia. Just wonder, if the restaurant is still there and if Carlo is still running that business? Eva

Fair Coming! (4 Replies)
The largest fair in Duesseldorf during the year is coming July 11 for a week. I am watching it being built as I write. It is along the Rhine on the Oberkassel side. So if you are going to be here during that time do not miss it. In German it is Oberkassel Kirmes if you want to Google it. Tons of fun along with rides and food....fish sandwiches for sure! ZB

I have been there last year and enjoyed it very much. It`s really big fun and the views across the Rhine and to the city are very scenic, especially at sunset.

We hunted out a great bar a couple of U Bahn stops further on from the old town, at Belsenplatz: AlterBahnhof Oberkassel. It still has its own brewery inside and if the weather is good, plenty of seats and tables outside. On the Sunday we found a great river side food and craft market along from the Oberkasseller Bridge, just down from the Tonhalle UBahn stop. We sat with some cheese and...More
