Walking through and around Hofgarten I spotted Ratinger Tor through the trees and what a beautiful site this is .
A wonderful former customs gate ( Tor ) constructed in 1815 and recently restored ,its a great example of Classic architecture, so beautiful, so photogenic and most definitely well worth checking out if you're in Hofgarten and easy to locate along Maximilian Weyhe Allee.

Ratinger Tor is a wonderful Gate house that has stood here for well over 400 years ,this present gate along with the building across the busy road actually date from 1815,not part of a defensive fortifications system but as a customs gate for goods entering the Altstadt area, constructed in the Classical Greek style of architecture that is so pleasing on the eye, the gates make for some great photographic opportunities allbeit there may be some cars in the way as this is a seriously busy road.
Easy to locate along Ratinger Tor ,most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

I take it they were beside a gate to the old town. Look very Roman. They are attractive as an entry to the Aldstadt

These lovely looking white gates sit on either side of the road and a very busy traffic light junction. They are well worth seeing but it's difficult to get great photos due to the traffic unless you don't mind getting cars in your pictures.

The Ratinger Tor is located in Maximilian-Weyhe-Allee and was completed in 1815. It has been build as a model of the "Neue Wache" in Berlin and used as town gate buildings for the entrance of the city.
It's now an history top spot monument.

Ratinger Tor, Gate at Rating in English is not fortification gate, but built for collecting customs. It was built as late as 1815 in classical style. There has been customs gate at area some 400 years earlier already. The Ratinger Tor buildings are built almost in square format with pillars on three sides of the building.
From here it is natural to visit Hofgarten.

Made a brief visit in the snow. It looks different in the snow compared to the picture with bright sunshine.

That said it looks impressive and a real feature of Düsseldorf and worth making a trip to.

Tip: we dived into nearby Füchschen for a beer to warm up and pretty glad we did.
