There was quite the queue to get to see these guys for a photograph. They are sweet, but not worth going out of your way to see.

These are the characters from the puppet theatre of Cologne. Am told you can touch them for good luck either for love or money.

Which would you prefer? Can’t be both. Choose and rub the nose of that statue and that’s what you’ll get

Finished our free walking tour near here.

If you are making your way from the Cologne Cathedral to the river promenade then by all means stop for a photo op with the statues. They are cute, but nothing special.

We were on an AMA waterways river cruise and ported in Cologne for the day. Our tour guide was Marcus from Berlin. He was most likely one of the best tour guides we've ever had. He was a history teacher so extremely knowledgeable on culture, politics and geography PLUS he was super funny! Right when we started he stated to beware of the bicyclists since they will "run you over then ring their bell to celebrate"! If you can seek him out somehow, I promise it will be worth it! He provides a nice active walking tour around the city and will gear your visit to your interests. The City square with Martin Church, Brussels Bridge with all the padlocks, Town Hall Gothic Tower and photo stop at Tunnes & Schal statues & Josef Frings. At the Tunnes & Schal statues you step on their feet and rub his round nose for "good luck".

This sculpture stands in tribute to two characters from the puppet theatre tradition of Cologne. The sculptures are cartoonish and to be honest, unless you’re immersed in the local culture, I can only say that they’re okay.

Tucked in a small square, a great photo op and delightful. Free standing metal statues with a comical conversation between them.

We found these statues by accident whilst wandering in the quieter streets and courtyards of the old town. They are on the walking tours itineraries and lots of people were around. The shiny parts are where visitors have rubbed them, for luck, presumably. A quirky pair of bronzes in a courtyard just off the main streets.

Since you will be visiting Gross St Martin in any case, stop and smile at these two. I love finding little quirky things along the way, expected or unexpected. You don't have to do the lucky rub of their noses if it is not "your thing" but give them a smile
