Nice interior
Aug 2021 • Solo
Another that is not easy to get an appreciation of externally as it is surrounded and views limited on all sides, but its interior looks good.

Beautiful church.

Although often overlooked by its close proximity to the magnificent Dom St Maria Himmelfarht ( Church Of The Assumption ) .
Located in a busy square ,the church is a mix of architectural styles including Baroque, Gothic and Romanesque, its modern appearance probably owes it look to the fact that during world war two the church like most of the area around the church was obliterated, surprisingly the largest landmark here namely the magnificent Dom escaped serious damage, St Maria Himmelfarht was rebuilt post war ,took close to 30 years to rebuild ,its the 2nd largest church in Cologne and although on this holiday to Cologne I never ventured into the church I have on previous holidays to this city and it's very beautiful.
Easy to locate along Marzellenstraße ,most definitely well worth checking out.

St. Mary's Assumption in Cologne

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption was after the cathedral for a long time the largest church in Cologne and is one of the few remaining architectural evidence of Baroque in the city. The former collegiate church of the Jesuits, located on Marzellenstraße near the cathedral. It has heavy wrought-iron fences outside and inside. The inside fences prevent you from enjoying the relics.

Beautiful church
Aug 2018 • Couples
Gorgeous little church with a stunning interior. Unfortunately there is a limited area to walk round in inside meaning exploring in detail is not an option, which is the reason I gave 4* and not 5*. Incredibly peaceful, very glad we took the time to go inside.

I only walked past this church and didn't go inside. But from outside it is lovely. It is located in a quest street close to the Hauptbahnhof and it very beautiful in the evening. Nice pink colour, elegant architecture.

This enormous church - painted pink on the exterior - with a huge tower which can be seen from the railway station entrance is close to the station and cathedral

A mix of baroque and gothic it’s also the home of the Italian Catholic Community in Cologne

Well worth a wander around and both prayerful and welcoming

A beautiful hidden sanctuary
Dec 2017 • Couples
Stayed at the Hilton and saw people going in and out of a VERY non-descript building. Asked at desk and they mentioned an Advent Concert. So, Saturday night, on way back for a rest, decided to stop in and take a peak. Outside - meh...Inside, wow. This is a VERY beautiful church, much larger than the front exterior would indicate. We happened in at 6p and Mass started. The beauty is amazing. It is worth a visit.

My twin brother Stephen and I were on an eight day holiday in Cologne,Dusseldorf and Bonn were we planned to visit the many Kölsch brewpubs to be found in this part of Germany and of course the wonderful Christmas Markets and while exploring these cities you come across some magnificent churches and cathedrals and St Maria Himmelfahrt in Cologne was one such church we payed a visit to.
This is certainly an old church and the second largest in Cologne behind the stunning Dom.
The exterior is impressive and imposing and easily dominates the immediate area, the interior is exquisite, the mix of Gothic and Romanesque architecture looks superb and is very pleasing on the eye.
Like most every other major landmark in the city this church was really badly damaged during WW2 and took over 30 years to reconstruct and renovate back to its former beauty, one of the few landmarks that escaped serious damage during WW2 was surprisingly the largest and most prominent namely the Dom.
St Maria Himmelfahrt ( Church Of The Assumption ) is most definitely well worth checking out and is found on Marzellenstraße not to far from the Dom.

Bizarrely Beautiful Little Church
Dec 2016 • Couples
I don't think we've ever seen such a strange combination of styles in a church. Enjoy spotting Renaissance, Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and more influences mashed together in a truly unique experience.

Perfect Quick Stop
Mar 2016 • Friends
It is very easy to walk right past this church, however you can go inside and view it from the back of the main area. I would recommend this as a quick stop, it isn't very much of a walk from the main central area. Pay particular attention to the photos on the back, they show the massive amounts of destruction from WWII, amazing to see how it looked at the time and how amazing it is now when it has been rebuilt.
