It is centrally located to many of the main attractions in Cologne city centre, walking distance from the Dom, for most. Worth a look.

The church was mostly destroyed during World War Two. There are two memorials, to the soldiers killed in war and to prisoners of war.

The old fascade still stands for everyone to see that the church was destroyed in WW2 and is a memorial for those who died. You can also see the mourning parents staues from the fence.

As a baby boomer, I belong to the generation that remembers older family members talking about the awfulness of war. I had a father who served during WWII and grandfather who served in WW1. Whilst not living through it myself, I did listen to many first hand accounts. For this reason we can only hope we do not have to suffer global warfare on such a scale ever again. It is very moving to look into the church and view the remains. The mourning parents symbolise people from all over the world who lost loved ones both civilians and armed personnel. This memorial is a symbol of a very sad past, one can only hope no future generations have to go through anything like it. It is very moving, and we'll worth a visit.

I just love Koln so when here we like to take in every aspect of the region. This is just one of the many sights if you walk the streets of Koln. Worth the look.Even if its very little access.

The remains of the church are dumb but still speak and remind us that human madness is always in sharpened lines. And with her the war monster and the horsemen of the Apocalypse. Memento, homo ...

This church was easy to find, as all of Cologne is. We spent a few minutes here just remembering those horrors of the world wars and praying that our human family never experience such atrocities again on such a large scale, or at all!!!

St. Alban Church was destroyed in WWII in March 1945. The ruins remain as a memorial to prisoners of war and a testament to the devastation that happened to Cologne during that war.
The kneeling figures, titled "Mourning Parents" is a replica of a statue located in the German War Cemetery in Vladso War Cemetery in Belgium. The artist is Kathe Kollwitz.
This quiet memorial is slightly off the main tourist path but easy to find. It offers an opportunity to remember those who died and the horrors of war.
There is no entry that we could find. You look into the area from the street.

Alt St Alban is a really poignant memorial to the victims of war.
This church is one of Cologne's oldest churches and has been left as a permanent reminder of the suffering that occurred during both wars.
The statue of the grieving parents is really poignant and the memorial "there are still P.O.W. waiting to return" particularly sad .
The church suffered it's worst damage during an air raid on the 2nd March 1945 and was left unrestored and a permanent reminder of the destruction wrought in Europe and throughout the world both 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 .
I have visited the amazing Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin which is also a permanent WW2 reminder of the suffering of WW2,in my home town of Liverpool we have the Bombed Out Church ( St Luke's Church ) as a reminder of the destruction our city suffered during WW2 .
Alt St Alban is really easy to locate on Quartermarkt,it's actually not to far from Hard Rock Cafe Cologne.
A beautiful ruin of a church and well worth checking out.
