One of the main attractions of Cologne. A beautiful bridge restored perfectly after the war. It would take a an incredibly long time to count the love locks on the bridge but it is interesting to read some of the messages on them. At the...More
Me and my partner didn’t walk over the bridge as we walked along the river instead. It is a lovely bridge and we watched the trams and took some pleasant photos. A nice feature to look for in a lovely city.
The first thing you will see are, or course, the thousands of locks people have placed on the fence. You better hurry, it’s rumored the city will be removing them because of the added weight to the bridge, making it unsafe.
Enjoyed a lovely walk across Hohenzollern Bridge - known as the bridge of lovers - or padlocks
The bridge is adorned with thousands of padlocks added for many years - since 2008
An interesting part of our tour

I would also recommend bringing your own. Just make sure that it is fairly sturdy. There are so many locks already attached, that flimsy ones are apt to be smashed and lost. People are now resorting to climbing up the supports to find places to attach their locks. Quite amazing. We even saw a few "antique" locks - one about 6 inches long with a raised lizard carved across the face...lots with names and dates. Quite a sight! Enjoy!
