Having seen so many musicals in my life, that I must say the trip to Bochum to see the the one that always eluded me was not worth the effort. The show started about 30 minutes late (17/8), which can of course always happen, due...More
I saw this show in London in 1986 at the age of 26yrs old! The impression was lasting to the extent that when I found out that this incredible long performing show in Bochum existed, and wait for it "a one time performance in English"...More
We went to see this show as a lovely friend of ours Aisha Numah is wrench. What a great show. Excitement of the skating and fast pace of the story kept us well engaged despite our limited German.
Costuming is fantastic.
We did not know what to expect, a musical done on roller skates??? This is one of the most exciting musicals, and so clever, that I've ever been to. The story is about a contest between different trains from different countries and includes all the...More
The show has been revamped for the 30th anniversary, with new lights, costumes, some new characters, and a mostly new cast. I went to the preview shows and couldn't believe how good it was. The show was exciting, the cast was incredibly talented, and the...More

I’m a big Starlight Express fan from the uk. I’ve seen the show in its original format and on touring productions as well as at the recent creative team workshop. It was only a matter of time before I saw it in Bochum. It was...More
I don't speak German. I traveled almost an hour just to see this show. I knew very little about it. It was totally, 100% worth it.

Hi We saw it THREE times in German! It was awesome- if anything my daughter and I think we got more from the actual story from watching it in German. We flew with Easy jet to Dortmund and got a taxi to Bochum and stayed at the hotel right by the Starlight purpose built theatre which is called the H+ hotel. It is just a 50 yards walk to the theatre. We booked our tickets for the shows online on the German website but it was easy, and printed them off at home. A recommendation for the show is try to get front rows by the tracks as the engines interact with and involve the audience and it is just great to be so close!! These are the dearer seats but are SO worth the extra expense. Hope I've helped xxx I would go again I loved it!

I flew to Düsseldorf and hired a car for the duration of the trip. Düsseldorf to Bochum is just over a 30 minute drive. That said, the public train and transport systems are very good. There is a direct train from Düsseldorf to Bochum, and buses, taxis and trams are very regular in Bochum itself. I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel which was very nice, a two minute walk to the theatre, and not ridiculously expensive. There is also a hotel called the H+ which is right next to the theatre. It's a Ramada hotel so is a little bit cheaper if you're on a budget. In Bochum itself, there are quite a few nice little restaurants that are worth exploring, there are public parks, a planetarium which I never went to, but if you can stretch to a car, I definitely recommend it. We took trips out to Cologne to see the cathedral, there are huge shopping malls, and various other bits of entertainment, and while all that was doable by public transport, it was a lot easier by car.
We saw the show in German, but we were familiar with the storyline, so my complete lack of language skills wasn't a problem. The songs and actions are very well done, so there was no problem following the story. The show truly was great, and I've been recommending it to everyone, so I hope you get a chance to go. I hope this has helped!
