Our son and his wife live in Bielefeld. When we were there to visit our daughter-in-law took us to Sparrenburg while our son was at work. It is a lovely, well kept castle. Considering the age of the structure, it's amazing. Of course this comes from a US citizen where nothing is all that old! It was free to walk... More

Quite nice to wander the gardens and walk around the ruins. It's cheap to go up the tower €1.50 and see the 360* view from the top. Make sure you finish your visit with a good German beer in the courtyard.

We walked to the castle from the city which was not too hard with some stairs to climb. There are a few parking lots closer to the castle. Nice weather with blue skies always make for a pleasant impression. We did not go inside. Buildings well kept and a lot of people on the grounds enjoying a Saturday afternoon.

A spectacular view of the city, an amazing walk from the main road in the nature. We went there as a group and had dinner and a few drinks on the terrace, very good. An interesting slice of history. But on a down side the toilet facilities was in an atrocious state, the men's toilet was filthy the entire evening.-... More

Anyone who's confused by the geography of Bielefeld will get a bird's eye view of much of it from the castle ramparts. You can climb the tower for €1 and get an even better view. There's an on sight restaurant and a bar. The tower is one of the iconic sites of Bielefeld and features on many Biefeld themed merchandise.
