Beautiful monumental building in the busy city center. Built in the classicist style in the nineteenth century. Located at the very busy bus junction. The beautiful Elisen Park borders the building.

To Berwerter Michael K. from September 2016. You're the last thing for me to devalue people because of bums and skaters because they live or skate there at the Elisenbrunnen. We poor creatures were all man before you Here. Since '83, I've learned to skate at the e-fountain. I'd like to meet you there sometime. Ciao love greeting to all those who are homeless and skaters

At Elisenbrunnenj you can wash your hands in this hot water with a lot of sulfur. Not for drinking, but some people benefit from it (against rashes and eczema). See the list of people who visited this place. Sometimes very busy, but nicely kept with a garden behind it.

The Elisenbrunnen is a Neoclassical building (and an okay one at that), that houses fountains of water piped from the natural hot springs for which the city is famous. The fountains are houses in the central semi-circular hexastyle portico with two arcade wings extending from either side. Both of which look like colonnades, which interestingly are also of hexastyle design. The city has gone to an awful lot of trouble to house this fountain in a building, it doesn't half stink though.

We were very surprised at the ease in which we travelled to Aachen using the Park and Ride. We parked for free at the P+R Waldfriedhof ((Monschauer StraĂźe): 99) a short bus ride away from the city centre. A return bus ticket for 5 of us cost just 5 Euros! The number 21 bus took us from the car park right into the centre of Aachen just opposite this site. We caught the return number 21 bus back. Helpfully the times and bus numbers are displayed at the bus stops. Very easy to use and very reasonable prices. The bus driver was especially helpful.

There was a distinct whiff of rotten egg, but as anyone who has been near a volcano or hot spring would know, this is from the levels of sulphur in the water and not from the locals!

On the back wall there are a couple of basins with running water, It was a surprise to feel just how hot the water was.

Behind the springs is a pleasant park where you can sit and watch the world go by. Also there is a small archaeological site showing several layers of Aachen history.

Opposite the site (on the same side of the road as the park and ride bus drops you into the city) there is a shopping centre. Nothing worthy of note exists here other than free toilets that are reasonably clean. Follow the signs into the underground carpark and into the blue lit conveniences.

Mineral springs may be good for health but they sure do nothing positive for the palate. Get a companion to taste it but have your camera ready to catch their expression!

The building already is amazing but the water coming out of the hot springs is known for its medical healing abilities....it just doesn't smell nice because it is from volcanic origin

The building is well maintained and near the Dom. There is not much to see here except some small polls of water. It just happened to be near other sites.

We walked passed and through Elisenbrunnen as we walked around Aachen. We were never really sure what the significance of this structure and small pools were really about. It looks nice but I can't see it being a destination other that something nice to look at when in Aachen.
