I would love to return one day again. Preferably on a quiet off-season day when there are less visitors.

This is actually one of the best church I have ever seen. The inside of Dom is really beautiful and gorgeous with a lot of gold color tile and stained glass!

Situated in the middle of a pedestrian area, it's an awesome, yet compact feeling, structure. Full of treasures -- a special chandelier, bones of Charlemagne, Lothar's Cross, and a unique interior design are among the treats that make this a must see on any visit near to Aachen!

It's interesting to compare this cathedral to the one in Cologne. It's much smaller but so much more ornate inside. Many of the mosaics are just spectacular to look at. It really is a must see place if you're in the area. Lots of good eateries close by too.

As others have mentioned, a guided tour is the only way you can view the altar and upstairs throne, which are the highlights of the visit. The tour guide does an impressive... More

We visited the cathedral with one of the excellent tour guides who provided us with a lot of interesting background information. It is definitely worth paying for the tour because although it is fairly short (about 45mins), you will be able to go through to the upper floors of the cathedral to see the throne of Charlemagne and the German...
