A very instructive and beautiful visit recalling the major historical figure of Charlemagne. His relics are preserved in sumptuous silver and gold bust and glove. The paintings and religious objects are of exquisite artistic beauty. A must if one arrives in the city of Aachen.

The Grashaus is a building in the historic centre of Aachen and one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was also the first Aachen town hall of historical importance and one of the buildings of the Charlemagne Route. I thought it was okay. If you've only got a day in Aachen, then there's probably more important things to do.

The Grashaus located in Fischmarkt is the first town hall of Aachen, being built in 1260 until it was replaced by the Rathaus. Nowadays it is a place of learning focusing on European history and issues.

It was a pity this building was never listed on Tripadvisor before. Visitors to Aachen would have missed the opportunity to view this historic building if they have had not known about it from Tripadvisor.

Another building to appreciate when you walk the streets of Aachen. The building has served various purposes during its time. Impressive from the outside

This old building (one of the oldest in Aachen) was in the past the City Hall of Aachen.
It is located in Fischmarkt very close to the Cathedral.

The Grashaus was the original town hall, 1267, and owes its name to a medieval village green on which both executions and folk festivals and allegedly also the funerals of the executed. After the Grashaus had become too small and not sufficiently representative as the town hall for the many solemn occasions, the acting mayor Gerhard Chorus built the new Aachener Rathaus in the middle of the 14th century on the foundations of the dilapidated royal hall of the Carolingian imperial palace. Over the years the Grashaus has been the city court, prison, granary and a salt warehouse. Since 2015, the Grashaus is the European station of the historic city tour Route Charlemagne and houses the EUROPE DIRECT Information Office Aachen, the European Horizons Initiative, the Charlemagne Prize Foundation and the European Classroom. Allow for ~15 min for visit.

At Fischmarkt is this old house, which was originally the first town hall of Aachen. Nowadays there are some classrooms here. Looking at this building from the outside can be recommended to be done.
