It is well worth paying the 3 euros per head to go up in the glass lift to the observation platform at the top of this church. The views really are astounding. We could even see the funnel of the cruise liner that we had arrived in. The internal aspects of the building itself iare also worth viewing also it is currently a bit of a building site in some areas.

Whilst our cruise ship was docked in the port of Rostock, for the day, we had taken a guided tour to Wismar.
After visiting the old town square, our tour guide led us to this church, to take a look inside.
Some of the war time damage to the church was obvious from the outside. Most of the windows were glazed with plain glass rather than the original stained glass.
When we went inside, we saw that most of the interior was empty. There were some small displays relating to the history of the church and also some church pews.
Our tour guide did not provide us with the opportunity to visit the roof lookout area of the church. Instead, we just had to make do with viewing the vast, mainly empty interior and the splendid architecture of the church’s exterior.
Worthy viewing by any tourist who happens to be spending time in Wismar!

The main attraction of this church was the view from the tower, which was really impressive on a clear day and made me realise how much smaller Wismar is than it may seem! The church itself is basically a shell, but worth a visit for the tower.

The Church of St George. Also badly damaged during the war, it was partially rebuilt and now can be visited though featuring a mostly empty interior.

The church ifself is empty. The church tower is not very tall, beside part of the church covers one side of a view. But you could see the harbour and it is quite nice.

This church has only been reconstructed (after wartime damage) quite recently. It is quite empty and almost stark. This adds to its beauty - and highlights quite how many bricks must have been used. We did not go up the tower but I expect the views must be good

A vast open space which has been transformed into a theatre / concert hall by clever use of mechanical dividers. The height of the building is quite overwhelming and worth seeing for that reason alone.

You can't miss this massive church when you are driving into Wismar but when you come across it from the lane, you can truly see the massive scale. But go inside and the loftiness and just plain massive inside is mind blowing. This is a small regional center and yet they built (and rebuilt) this church to the heavens. Devotion I say.
It was heavily damaged during the war but what they have done to date is impressive. We didn't have time to climb up the tower but just wandering around inside was impressive.
They were setting up for a show and they had no shortage of room.
Amazing find.

We were in Wismar for part of the day, and walked past this large building on the way to other things. We looked and noticed the largely empty interior and continued on our way. Having read other reviews, we wish that we had planned better and paid the small entry and tower charges to learn more and gain a view over the town. Our overall rating reflects our experience at the time, but is probably underrated

This church is an impressive building. However, the church is now used for theater and concerts, which is much better than a grand building being destroyed! So do not go in looking for artwork.
