Interesting building. Long ago they controlled the water supply for Wismar from here and in the end made a monument of it. Very nice!

We had taken a guided tour to Wismar, while our cruise ship was docked in the port of Rostock, for the day. The first stop on our tour was the Old Town market square. Here, our tour guide pointed out this old water well which was the town’s original source of drinking water. Whilst some members of our tour group we “underwhelmed” by this unique and beautifully decorated structure, we were quite impressed by it. We liked the copper-clad dome-roof and the intricately decorated almost circular walls. This old town landmark structure is an attraction which you would not spend a great deal of time at but it is worthy of viewing by any tourist who happens to be spending time in Wismar!

Wasserkunst is an ornate water well which supplied Wismar’s drinking water until the late 19th century. It’s the centerpiece of the market square, but it’s probably only worth a quick 5 minute stop. Except for a photo op, there’s not much to see.

Pretty little historical structure. Good for a quick look and a photo, but not much else. The square where the Wasserkunst is located is also quite nice, though not spectacular
