Walking down the streets behind the church drew us in with it's enrmity. We circled the church and then entered a massive structure and consumed it's relics, archetecture and style. Make sure your eyes taken in all angles. Left to right , up and down, and of course the ceilings too.

Another Gothic cathedral that is well worth the visit. It is hugely spacious and is in the Gothic style, Backsteingotik, or Red Brick Gothic. You need plenty of time to take in everything that is to be seen, most impressive.

We visited this church as part of our tour in Wismar. This church was unique in that that there was much more pink in the columns and walls offset against the white and black. The pink was just beautiful and added a nice dimension to the church compared to other churches.

I enjoyed this church and if one is in Wismar, you should visit this church.

It was really worth seeing. Huge, gothic church which was not as badly destroyed during WWII as other monuments of Wismar. While we visited (august 2018) it was a great photo exposition about the meaning of the motherland. Our daughter enjoyed a lot a small chapel with wooden toys and brick where one can construct something in a creative way.

If you like old buildings or churches you should visit this one. It's a impressive tall building :-) If the day is just to hot it might be a good stop to cool down a little ;-)

Wismar is a lovely small city which we chose to visit via rail from our port day in Warnemunde. This church is easily reached a few steps from the train station. There was an interesting organ recital about 11:00 am. We were serenaded with "Yesterday" and "Bridge over Troubled Water" among others. A little surprising in a church but I was not sure it was still used for services. Good example of a bricks church.

This is quite a large brick church, one of many on the "Hanseatic brick" churches scattered around the Baltic and definitely worth a visit. It is quite large (it is the 2nd highest brick bascilica in the world!!) and on the outside side wall has a lot of small statues etc. Church dates back to 1255 and had had a number of modifications/rebuilds in its history. Funily enough it was not really damaged in WW2. I was amazed by the height of the inside roof as it is 37m !

It costs €2 to get in and you are given a guide in English that you return when you leave or buy for €1 (which we did as it is really well illustrated). I am not sure where to start with my description and all in all I thought everything I saw was marvellous. We spent well over an hour just walking around and looking at the art/piantings/relics and marvelling at their antiquity. My top things to see are the "Tree of Jese" at the front door - it is a huge painted tree with pictures of saints etc in it; the wooden carved high altar (from1430); the triumphal cross; the bronze baptismal font (from 1335); the shrine of the thousand Martyrs, the painted columns and roofs. This is only a small slice of what you can see!!!!

If you come to Wismar and do not visit this you have missed something special.

Large Hansaeatic brick church - one of the many huge brick churches in the areas dominated by the Hansa League. What is incredible is that most of these churches were destroyed or severely damaged during WW2. The interior is unusual, simple and ornate at the same time. Don't miss it.
