Stralsund - Kutertor gate.
Jul 2020
Kutertor gate is the second of two city gates that has survived demolition of old city fortifications that took a place in 19th century, that been caused by development of the city. Located to the south of Kniepertor gate, and not so far from German Oceanographic Museum (Meeresmuseum) gate was constructed in 13th century, and then subsequently rebuilt. As in case of Kniepertor, its subdivision into inner and outer gate has not been preserved. The 15th century gate building that we can see now is sandwiched in between tenements houses, and is slightly higher from its counterpart in the north. The gate is topped with lantern and hexagonal roof spire that looks a bit like church one. Maybe because of the localization, or thanks to its architectonic features, the gate looks quite picturesque amongst the surrounding it buildings.

Nice but not great
Jul 2018 • Family
Stralsund is a nice town, but not as cosy as many other old towns in Europe. It has a very modern feeling to it, broad and straight streets, and lot of big stores that diminishes the feeling of old and historical town. However, there are a number of interstitiell buildings and the city gate is definitley one of them.
It's worth a visit if you're in the surroundings, but not special enough to be worth a separate trip.
