Charming village-Picturesque!
Aug 2019
We stayed in Berlin for 3 days before going to Rostock/Warnemunde port to meet our cruise ship. Our ship was berthed for most of our first day there. Some folks took tours, some took train to Berlin(I think 3 hour train ride oneway!) and others walked around the Villages and shopped and stopped to eat. Lots to see and do in Rostock & Warnemunde.

a buzzing place
Aug 2019
Take a trip with one of the tour boats in warnemünde for a extensive trip around the industrial harbour with the shipyards and ferry jetties. It is an interesting place to see and you get the feeling of a busy port.

Uninspiring!
Jun 2019
Our cruise ship was berthed in the port of Rostock for the day.
Most of the ship’s passengers were involved in shore excursions for part of the day or for the whole day. Some of them even undertook a three hour train journey to Berlin on a train which had pulled up right on a railway line located right next to the ship’s berth.
Other than the railway line which most probably usually catered for freight trains, there really was not much in the way of facilities available for cruise ship passengers.
The only service which we used was the free shuttle bus which ran all day to transport passengers between the ship and Rostock’s town centre. Apparently this service was provided by Rostock’s municipal council.
Rostock’s port appeared to be primarily a freight and ferry port which only occasionally caters for cruise ships.

This was a great stop!
Aug 2019 • Family
On our 13 day trip around Northern Germany, this was a worthy stop. The port is bustling with food vendors and shops. Take a walk on the pier, grab a backfish sandwich and window shop! The day was cloudy/rainy so there was few enjoying the beach, but this place would be fun to stay the night...

Day out in Rostock
Jun 2019 • Couples
We docked at Wernemunde which is a lovely village and boarded the train to Rostock. An all day multi-use ticket was 6 euro each. This allows you to hop on and off the train and trams as often as you like. If you can read German you can buy your tickets from the vending machines but it is simpler to go to the kiosk and the lady there will issue them. The train takes about 20 minutes and you get off at Rostock Central Station, then go down two levels and follow the signs for trams. The tram will take you to the town centre square where there is a market and lovely old buildings. St Mary’s Church which is on the edge of the square was built in 13th century and spectacular to wander through. It is free entry and well worth a visit. Then wander down the adjacent street to see one of the 22 town gates and remaining section of the town wall. In this same area is the Museum and really very good.
Warnemunda was a good place spend a few hours wandering and check out the history.

From the port, you can easily go to Rostock from Wernamunde station. You can buy a day pass and have an unlimited access to the train. Rostock is only about 20 minutes by train. You can spend your few hours going around the old town. Don’t miss the walls and the tower

Good chioce.

Was once a completely walled city. Shuttle from ports to the city centre & its easy to walk around the town. It was a better choice than a long bus ride elsewhere. Lovely town, some great sites and plenty of food & drink outlets. we spent about 5 hours in town & totally enjoyed ourselves.

Lively picturesque port
Aug 2018 • Couples
Like thousands of cruise passengers we embarked at Rostock wondering what was in store - as traveling six hours in a coach on an overpriced trip to Berlin was not on the itinerary after working flat out full time for months preceding the trip. The area was lively and buzzing - enhanced by a festival and celebrations of the RNLI - a couple of hours is plenty before the next phase of a Baltic cruise enjoy!

The Ferry from Rostock to Gedser
Aug 2018 • Family
We took the car-ferry from Rostock to Gedser in Denmark. basically - you wait in a long line of cars (small stand nearby with hot dogs and icecream if your'e hungry) and then, when the boat arrives - you simply drive forward and the road seamlessly continues within the ferry! and a bonus - there's a starbucks inside (simple auto coffee machine -but still...)
