Unwelcome, unfriendly and a general loathing
Jul 2020
I was actually shocked at the way we were treated. Buying a car and picking it up here was supposed to be a truly happy occasion. It was anything but.

Took a nice train ride from Berlin with hubby and small, well behaved dog in a bag on a Friday at noon with the expectation of exploring the factory a bit, grabbing a bite to eat, shopping a little then driving our new car home.

Arrived by train with a short walk to the Autostadt passing over a nice bridge over water with those moving walkways. With paperwork in hand and masks on both nose and mouth we arrived at a large lobby where there were masked security "welcome staff". Either the woman that assisted us was having a bad day or is simply in the wrong job as a greeter. My husband, a Berlin local, politely asked where we should go to pick up our car. The woman said to him that he could go in but "they" (me and the dog who's head popped out of the bag) were not welcome inside. He asked why and she said due to covid only one of us could go in and pick up the car. He explained that nothing was mentioned in the paperwork and we needed to use a restroom so he proceeded to walk past her to the next line. She said to him that he could leave "it" with her if we wanted. She was referring to our dog.

We walked to the next station where the woman who was at least sympathetic said that if I closed the dog in, perhaps I could make it through the outer area but they truly would allow only on in to sign the paperwork and collect the car. She mentioned that there were restaurants etc. nearby. I opted to go back over the bridge and seek a restroom and water for the dog. In the shopping outside mall, having the dog was not an issue and there was a place for him to take a drink.

My husband sent word that he had a gift card to eat at the restaurants there. I went back over the bridge in an attempt to get take out from the restaurant as the dog was not welcome. The manager of the restaurant stated that normally the dog and I could sit outside but she did not recommend it at the moment as it started to rain and was windy. No take out. Not allowed inside, kindly go sit in the rain and wait please. This was at 3:30PM and she stated that if we were going to eat while the dog was tied outside in the rain we would have to order soon as the place closed at 5PM.

I went back outside and found a nice Weeping Willow tree which provided some shelter from the rain and wind. I was sitting next to a nice lady and her tiny cute puppy who was also exiled from the building.

None of this was mentioned on the paperwork sent to us as we would simply have stayed home.

When the car was finally available after sitting in the rain for over an hour, I had to walk back over the bridge to get to a place where we could be picked up.

I wrapped the dog in a warm blanket and got in the car.

I was shocked to see that the dashboard had fingerprints and a white substance on it. (see picture) I've never received a new car that was not pristine and could pass a white glove test until today. Not sure if they were short staffed or just stopped caring at some point but honestly, not an experience I would pursue again.

A Must Visit, Plan to spend the entire day if you are a car aficionado.

Time of Visit: April 2019

Being a car-head, the Autostadt was akin to visiting disneyland. The Autostadt has individual areas / museums for each of the VW brands & a 4D presentation for the Lamborghini supercar. Do not miss out on the Bugatti Zone.

A day can be easily spent at the Autostadt, if not more!

Beyond the cars and vehicular history, the park and landscaping is beautiful and during Christmas time there were lots of activities. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Must see
Dec 2019 • Friends
Amazing place. You can see all; from the very first car from Karl Benz, to the most expensive Bentley or most fastest Buggati Chiron. In the winter they have absolutely beautiful winter land with the Christmas Market and the huge ice scatting area, with the performances. I would also recommend to see WV factory. It’s fascinating!

A great place to come and visit. I love the fact school children come here to learn about history and more. The museum with vehicles is great, many are not from the vag family. Great park to sit and have a rest and the restaurant is great.
The factory tour is very good and gives you an idea how cars are put together.

Factory Tour and Tower Tour
Dec 2019
Both Factory Tour and Tower Tour were fantastic, but the Factory Tour is a must. VW factory is about the size of Gibraltar. Production is about the size of Mônaco. There is also the Car Museum that is very interesting. Factory Tour and Tower Tour has to be paid in addition of Autostadt Ticket and both require reservations in advance.

Best present for my husband
Sep 2019
As a Christmas present for my husband I organised a 4 day trip from Newcastle upon Tyne, England to VW Autostadt, Germany. It included a flight to Schipol Airport and then 2 train journeys arriving at our hotel in Wolfsburg. We had 2 full days at the Autostadt - the whole experience was fabulous, well worth it and the staff, restaurants and facilities were exceptional. Would thoroughly recommend - what an adventure!

It is the best place for entertainment and exhibitions. Very nice christmas atmosphere with artificial slide for kids.
Pls note that auto exhibition halls close 30min before the stated time, and personnel at the main hall is rude and not friendly

Everything I thought it would be and more

As a total car geek, Autostadt was AMAZING. But I was surprised how great it would be for those that may not even be into cars as much. From the Brand Pavilions, Installations, Architecture + Grounds, it was a very cool experience. I was fortunate to stay ON the Autostadt Grounds at the Ritz Carlton and would highly recommend staying there.

FACTORY TOUR - You MUST do the Factory Tour. I almost wish I had gone TWICE, just in case I missed anything the first time.

OVERVIEW TOUR - My guide was lovely, but I would skip it. Grab the Autostadt map at check-in and you’ll be just fine.

CAR TOWER ASCENT - Was cool. If you have the time, I recommend it. I was fortunate to grab a seat day of, but if you really want to do this, reserve in advance.

You can see most everything in 1 day. I spent 2 days there and was able to really take it all in.

I was fortunate enough to visit in December and they have their own Christmas Market each afternoon into evening.
