I've been to many churches throughout Europe but this one was very different because of its beautiful starkness. Parts of it look Moorish. The highlight is the magnificent painted ceiling. This church is a World Heritage Sight. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a famous church with the amazing huge bronze doors of around the year 1000 showing biblical scenes, arcades with relief sculpture and with angels in the raised choir area, and a remarkable painted ceiling of the 13th century. Most art history survey books...More

Damaged in 1945 with much of the city, the cathedral was restored to beautiful condition. The age of the stones clearly varies, yet the restoration matches wonderfully with the original design. Introduced to this landmark during my first trip a couple of years ago, it...More

Perhaps the best of the Romanesque churches of Hildesheim, and well worth a visit. The tomb of Bernward is here in the crypt. Don't fail to walk around the church on the outside to get the full impact of the architecture.

The ceiling was nice I expected more stained glass but it was damaged in the war so maybe that's why. Lovely inside. Beware of the gypsy/beggar who offers to open the door to let you in the church and waits for you to come out...More

Amazingly beautiful Ottonian, pre-Romanesque church located in the center of Hildesheim. The church has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1985. The church was destroyed in an air raid in the final days of WWII and was rebuilt in the 1950's. I...More

Wonderful example of an early-romanesque church. A must-see for all architecture and medieval times lovers. From the church you can take a walk to several other medieval churches situated closer to the city centre - it is called the Rose Route, just follow the line...More
