I went just to see the Red Baron’s final resting place but this was a nice cemetery. Very quiet despite being in the midst of a busy city

Most visit the South Cemetary (Sudfriedhof) to visit the final resting place of the Red Baron. His grave is easily found and worth a quiet moment to contemplate the cost of war. The cemetary is peaceful, beautiful and incredibly well maintained.

It is a cemetery how it should be, no machinery is waltzing over flat stones embedded in a scrubby lawn, no North-American efficiency experts at work. You will find a park like setting, with mature trees from all over the world, there are elaborate headstones...More

This is a very beautiful graveyard, and I came here for one reason: to view the Red Baron's grave. Buried in a family plot next to his brother, it is easy to locate and accessible so that I was able to kneel for a pic...More

The Sudfriedhof has many well manicured and landscaped plots. One of which is for Manfred von Richthofen (The Red Baron). Another is for our stillborn child in the "star children" area for unborn children.

As you can see from the photo, the famed Red Baron rests here! along with thousands of other German Nationals, some war heroes. and some regular folk. This is a very well cared for Cemetery, and is much more like a Park than a cemetery....More

Being a fighter pilot myself, I have great respect for this legendary WWI ace. He was revered by both friend and foe. He was also immortalized in "Snoopy and the Red Baron". Now, spending a few minutes at his final resting place was a surreal...More

I recently attended a funeral service here. Although somber, the hall where the funeral services are held is facinating from an architectural viewpoint. If you get a chance to see it, compare its features with that of the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden. You will notice a few...More
