Lovely views and a much easier way to get to the monument than walking. Return tickets cost 9 EUR and each cable car has just about enough space for two.
One way takes about 8-10 minutes, according to staff. I was too busy enjoying the view to check the time.

For those of you with babies: I don't think there is a lift to the cable car platform, so you'll have to carry strollers up there. Also I don't think there's enough space for two people, a baby AND a stroller in the cable cars but I overheard that they'd send the strollers separately with the next cable car. But if in doubt, better ask the staff before purchasing your ticket. Just saying this because there was a couple with a baby in front of us and the woman was spitting mad about having to carry their stroller...

What a great way to spend a morning or afternoon....or whole day if you chose to! Just a short walk from wherever you may be in Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany; to the ticketing and beginning point. This adventure has many variations, but, the full package is 1. Ride the gondola through the sky up to the Niederwald Monument. At this point there are bathrooms and a small place to eat, kind of an imbiss atmosphere. Many walking trail options can be taken from here. Pick your route and walk through the woods and vineyards to Jagdschloss Niederwald. Stop in here to have a glass of wine, your favorite German beer or a full meal in their courtyard. Wonderful place! After this quick break take a short walk(maybe 1/8 mile) to the chairlift down the mountain to the town of Rüdesheim-Assmannshausen. Here there are several options for food and refreshments if you did not ear at Jagdschloss Niederwald. From dock 3 on the river, you will take a river boat back to Rüdesheim am Rhein. There is one stop in Bingen on the way back, if you happen to be staying on that side of the river, you can just hop off there. Wonderful time, only about 2 miles of walking. Beautiful views!

It is a 2-seater cable car from Rüdesheim town to the Niederwald monument. Very beautiful views of the Rhine, Rüdesheim and the vineyards. Once at the top, you have several options. Hike to the different viewpoints or to the other chairlift, walk down to Rüdesheim through the vineyards or return by cable car.
Price cable car is €9 return. If you are visiting in high season, go early or in the evening. During the day there can be a very long line. Next to cable car station is a restaurant.

Whether you are taking the Sesselbahn up to see the Niederkammel monument or doing the "ring" tour, riding on this quaint two seater gondola is the way to go!
Starting on the south side of charming Rüdesheim, you get on your gondola. Each one is small, open air, and seats face each other, so if there are two people, one is always riding backward.
The ride is very peaceful as you rise up over the vineyards, and overlook the Rhine river below.
Once at the top, you will see the monument and breathtaking views of the Rhine.
Insider Tip: Das Rebenhaus is a charming cafe that is hidden among the trees from the monument. It is worth the short walk down for great food and tremendous views as you eat on the terrace overlooking the Rhine valley!
The "Ring" tour: Purchase ticket all together at the Sesselbahn ticket counter or the visitors center along the river in Rüdesheim.
The Ring tour starts with the Gondola ride on the Sesselbahn to the top. Then you have a lovely walk through the woods for a short 1 km. A chairlift will take you down to the town of Assmanshausen, where you get on the boat, which takes you back to Rüdesheim!
You can reverse the direction of the ring tour if you prefer walking mostly downhill.
Note to those who fear heights: it is not scary. It is a comfortable height that does not feel like you are very high at all.

We rode the Seilbahn down to Rudesheim after having hiked the area most of the day. We found the service to be friendly and the tram was a great, smooth ride with gorgeous views. We highly recommend it!

The best thing we did was to get the cable car up to the giant Neiderwald monument and then walk back down. The cable car takes you up over rows and rows of grape vines but when you walk back down, you are walking at eye-level through these same vineyards. It was really lovely.
The cable car is the quickest, easiest way up to the monument. It is a short ride and was about 10 min (the line to get on takes longer than the trip). However, the views over the town, river and vineyards are panoramic and are absolutely breath-taking.
You should allow some time at the top to stop briefly at the Greek temple, to look at the Neiderwald monument and to take in the sweeping views of the Rhine. We also did a short walk along one of the flat, looped walking trails through the forest before we walked back down.

TIPS:
• You will find the cable car station and ticket office in the main shopping street, Obergasse. You’ll probably spot the line first but otherwise, look for the cartoon symbol of a cable-car on the big building, next to the Christmas shop (see photo).
• The cable car itself is an open-air, two-seater ‘gondola’ style car. I am normally a little wary of cable-cars and heights but I was quite comfortable on this. It doesn't go very high off the ground and is much less scary than a skiing chairlift.
• Cost: Prices vary with the different combos, but a one-way ticket was €5.50 (return €8)

This was a fun ride , was afraid I would get sick but didn’t . Only trouble was we bought a round trip and left our tickets on the seat . Had to buy more tickets to get down . Almost didn’t have enough euros to get down !! Remember, hold on to your tickets !!

An spectacular chairlift ride for a few € each way OR a 45min hike (and I do mean Hike) UP the hillside to reach the statue, lookout and Rotunda.
10 minutes and you are up the top.
The gondolas are open on 2 sides, so the ride can be Breezy, from the wind blowing up the Rhine.
There is a small museum at the top and a cafe/beer garden/restaurant overlooking the Rhine. Due to the steepness of the hill, the view is unimpeded by most trees except for some old large trees near the top of the crest.
There are a few lookouts to walk to so you can much of the Rhine even as it snakes past the Castles near Trechtingshausen, just past where the Rhine turns a sharp 90deg corner to the right at Bingen.
A great way to kill a few hours.

Small, 2 or 4 person cable cars give you a spectacular view of the Rhine and the vineyards as you pass over them. Interesting to see how they work the vineyards. By far the best option to get up to the monument, but take care when you are getting on as the doors close automatically a bit earlier than you might think. I just failed to get on after my wife and had to get on the next one.

We bought a ring ticket which allowed us to take a cable car to the Neiderwald monument then walk through the wooded hill top stopping off at various view points until we reached the chair lift taking us down to the beautiful village of Assmannshausen then a cruise boat back to Rudesheim. All for 15 Euro
