Frankfurt had over 2000 "half-wood" houses prior to WWII. This was the only one that survived in a city that was 90% demolished by bombing. Today it houses a 'period' bar-restaurant. Testament to the fact that over 200 cultures live in the city today. Mine-host (Markin) is a delightful Indian gentleman serving traditional German fare. The house specialty is pork knuckle with potato & sour cream.

It is difficult to not find this place when visiting the historical centre of Frankfurt. The building is the original from 17 century. The place is worth visiting. Unfortunately the service and the food did not meet our expectations. The schnitzel was ok, but the schweinshaxen was dry and tasteless. No credit cards.

I guess there's two ways to review this place, as a restaurant, and as a tourist attraction. Here it's listed as a tourist attraction.
Haus Wertheym is Frankfurt's oldest restaurant. It was built and started in the 15th century. Today the restaurant stands close to the Frankfurter Romer. It is a reasonably pretty, mainly wooden structure which looks like it was decorated for a children's story book.
I haven't had a chance to eat here, but if and when I do, I'll review it under it's restaurant listing.

Important information for all Italian tourists, you cannot use the ATM, madness in 2024 will they evade taxes???, we had three beers and a zero coke, never take coke, completely out of gas, it looked like colored still water, as per our second we had three cutlets with potatoes and a pork shank, we thought it was their strong point, the biggest mistake we couldn't make was completely dry, but are we in Frankfurt? I started having doubts as I savored that dried meat. Go elsewhere there is much better. The impression of a place that once had something to tell and today has completely decayed and yet is in the most beautiful square in Frankfurt.

Located downtown in the old city of Frankfurt, this is a nice place to visit. I ordered only a beer and then, decided to exit because I felt caught in a tourist trap. I would suggest visiting this pub and seeing his internal. The walls are full of pretty nice traditional objects and deserve a visit.

The old town of Frankfurt is lovely, and well worth a visit. I think a lot was rebuilt as original, after 2nd world war damage.

This is a real tourist trap. The Indian owner will reject any orders for only drinks and you will never see the kitchen which might be very good as the food is lowest quality. Prices are around 30 % more expensive as any other real restaurant with traditional food. The place it selve is nice and old but again it's a real expensive trap. If you want good frankfurt food than just walk over the Eisener Steg and you will find plenty of traditional places.

Advertised as the only building to boast the original wood structure due to the World War I thouht it would be better featured...but it looks just like other, rebuilt buildings in the area.
Worth a walk-by since it's right by Romer....but I wouldn't go out of your way to see it.

My friends and I went there for dinner as apparently it had a good reputation.
Unfortunately, we had the worst experience ever!!! The boss and waiter were incredibly unpleasant and unwelcoming. Our drinks came after more than 30 minutes, and despite our complaints our meals were given to us 45 minutes later, right when we were about to leave. All this wait for... 3 potatoes, 2 cold eggs and a tasteless sauce... that cost 11€ !!!
We will never go back, run away from this place!!

The local is really nice, a lot to look at and discover. The food was average: not bad, not good... decent.
The problem was the waiter shouting at me because he was sure I didn’t give him as many coins as I was supposed to. You don’t talk and especially you don’t shout at customers like that.
I’ll never enter this place again.
