Hard to believe it has been 40 years since I had last been in this area . My brother lived here at the time and I had fond memories of coming here for beers and food . We had returned recently to Frankfurt for my nephews birthday and were staying nearby .. the area seemed so much smaller than memory served . We went a couple of times and while we had a decent time it just wasn’t the same . There seemed to be a lot of stag / hen dos going on . There is a half decent Irish bar on one of the corners and there is an ok pizza place . Overall it was alright maybe my memory deceives me about how good it used to be .

Ok, I admit that I am biased since we used to live there, but Sachsenhausen really has everything. A classy art-cinema, lots of lovely coffee shops, restaurants and museums, great hotels for every budget and of course the cider. History too: just walk the streets and prepare to be enchanted.

When I researched this district it said it was a fabulous place to visit. Unfortunately I didn’t realise it meant in the evening as I went during the day. There’s nothing to see then but it supposedly transforms in the evening where the party people come out to play. However, the lovely cobbled streets of Rittergasse, Paradiesgasse and Klappergasse along with wall to wall of different bars, it was easy to envisage it rocking at night

I used to hang out here whenever I could with my mates and frequent the bars during the late 80's. This was a happening place. My fav was Kyalami (of course), but a decade or so on the place is barren and empty (or did I get lost again?)

I think the title here may be confusing. Sachsenhausen is a neighborhood in Frankfurt on the southern end of the city. There are parts of Sachsenhausen that are among the most beautiful and expensive parts of the city, and, parts which are decidedly middle-class or below. I live in Sachsenhausen.
The picture provided with this title, however, is of a tiny part of Sachsenhausen called "Alt (old) Sachsenhausen". This is a very small pedestrian area near the Main River and towards the east end of the city. It is filled with bars and restaurants, music and nightlife. I would not want to live there...filled with late night merryment and fights and drinking and --- well, you get the idea --- who wants to live in the middle of a street of pubs?
So about "old" Sachsenhausen: If you are looking for something to do, go out very late on a weekend, find a pizza or döner at 2:00 am, or have a guarantee of some music playing in a pub, Old Sachsenhausen is great to have around. Most of Frankfurt has to stay quiet late at night, but this neighborhood has permission to stay up late.
And for "new" Sachsenhausen....
Beautiful walks in the woods, nice parks, good restaurants and a great place to live. Easy connections to autobahns and trains. But not a party.

Back in the1980s, I was stationed in Germany for three years with the US Army, and have visited it almost a dozen times over the years. After my last visit to Sachsenhausen and Frankfurt, my love affair with Germany is done. Specifically- if you travel to Germany, you go there for the beer, brats and people. You want German efficiency, clean streets and a safe environment. Thanks to rampant 1mmigration, these qualities are getting harder to find in Germany in general, and Sachsenhausen in particular. Look, if I wanted halal food, hajabs, etc, I'd vacation in the middle east. And the beer? Fine if you like Guinness and Corona, but very little German beer. The pub area with the little meandering, cobblestoned streets is nothing more that a dreary, dirty, run down back ally. Bottom line- avoid at all costs if you seek anything akin to a German experience.

If you're in Frankfurt and looking for a good time sachsenhausen is the temple bar of Frankfurt only alot cheaper and safer perfect for stag party's or just a good weekend with the lads or Ladies so if you're thinking about something different this is the place for you I would recommend it.

What are the good pubs/restaurants in Sachsenhausen?
Written July 25, 2019
Sachenhausen is a great area of Frankfurt and it's a mix of traditional pubs, taverns, bars and sports bars ,there are several in this area and a great place to enjoy the sport Is The Anglo Irish Pub but there are several other sports bars and I suggest you just walk around the bars that line the streets here and check whose showing the sport.
Great area by the way and enjoy your holiday in this vibrant city, hope this helps from Neil.
