Terrible experience from start to finish! Where to begin? Very Rude Staff!! Wow! Never felt so disrespected by an establishment. We got shouted at in front of a line of people by a very bitter lady saying that we stole spots from others because I accidentally purchased extra tickets after a mishap with their website translating instructions in my language wrong. I tried to explain what happened, and not once raised my voice. Honestly I was taken aback, now I wish I stood up for myself. As for the zoo itself, I was not impressed. A lot of the enclosures were empty. The zoo was very dirty throught and no sanitizing options/stations were available for customers.

On the good side it is centrally locate with excellent access by all forms of public transport (U bahn and S bahn stops right outside). On the other hand the central location means it is hemmed in on all sides by buildings and hence the space for the larger animals is limited.

The things that are done well seem to me to be done very well, the great apes house, the nocturnal creatures etc. BUT the larger animals are in unispiring and far too small enclosures. I felt particularly sorry for the lions, tiger, hippo, rhino, zebras and giraffes. Yes its a great opportunity for kids in particular to see these animals up close but... I think the zoo would be better if it concentrated on smaller animals that could be kept in world class. Compare it to the big animal enclosure at e.g. Whipsnade and you will know what I mean.

The mapping and guide is good but stangely all of the catering (which is reasonably priced) is outside - great in summer but not so enticing for a winter visit.

I would not return to this 'attraction'.

The enclosures were all very small and a lot of the animals showed stress behaviours. There seemed to be little or no enrichment happening for the animals. I actually nearly cried at what I saw.

I'm not sure if the zoo does any conservation work but I really think this isn't the way to do so. People need to be educated that zoo's like this are just out to make money at the detriment of poor animals.

None of the signs were in a language other than German so tricky if you are not fluent.

Please think twice before visiting and funding a life of misery for the animals.

We had a lovely time in our visit. Even tho it was hot (around 29 degrees) we managed to saw a lot of animals. It is a small zoo, so you can be done with it in 3 hours or less (which is nice if you want to visit more parts of the city) . They have some “feedings” around 3 pm which is nice as you see a lot of cute animals funning around.

the zoo is well-organized and easy to navigate, making it an enjoyable experience for families especially with children .

One aspect of the zoo that I find most admirable is its Grzimekhaus building, which is home to many rare and endangered species of birds and reptiles. I also enjoyed the "Big Cat Jungle" exhibit which includes big carnivorous cats like lions, tigers and jaguars.

The good: A large range of animals
Several areas to chill during the visit
Ample toilets

The bad: extremely tired zoo, things look like they haven’t been upkept
Some exibits don’t look like they even contain what they supposed to, you wouldn’t see them anyways they’re so over grown.

The ugly: The staff were virtually non existent and the ones we did see were very unfriendly!

Would I visit again?

Absolutely NOT

I really can't understand why this really poor zoo gets good comments. If you never visited really nice zoos maybe you consider this as good. Most of the animals were not visible in their cages, the cages were not good enough for the animals. For example the penguins were in the water under 35 Celcium degrees. Very poor garden

The zoo was easy to access via public transportation. It was very quiet and the animals were out to enjoy. Our only challenge was the lack of English-speaking staff (our problem). Most of the food vendors were not open. There was not much to be found for lunch. We only found snack foods. The zoo was clean. We enjoyed the trip and would go again.

I've been to many zoos around the world, and this one is borderline the worst. Animals don't seem to have appropriate habitats, a lot are overgrown with weeds. Whilst I understand I am in Germany, some more translations would have been nice, or an audio guided tour maybe. Was a good morning out, but wouldn't recommend to go out of your way for

The Frankfurt Zoo is perfect for everyone, very fascinating for kids too!! Plan around 3 to 4 hours to visit the zoo. For a complete tour I would say the whole day!! Its fascinating to watch the animals they even have a dark room where animals that live in the dark in the wild live in. IN summer they usually have a peacock strolling around living his best life!! Check to see if you can spot him on your next visit!! Happy travels!!!
