The Römerberg has been the center of the city of Frankfurt since the Middle Ages.
Also the old town hall, the Römer, is located on the square.
During the Second World War, the Römerberg and the entire historical center (Altstadt) were destroyed.
Reconstruction work started in 1952.
Fortunately most of the historical buildings were rebuilt in their original appearance, making the square a 'must see'in central Frankfurt.
Also a nice place to sit down, have a drink and enjoy the local street life.

This cobbled square is absolutely fabulous and is not to be missed. It has authentic beautiful German buildings surrounding all sides of the square each with pristine architecture, gold leaf, and differing colours. There's the lovely Fountain of Justice to it's centre along with St. Nicholas' Church and of course the magnificent Romer itself.

Very beautiful and well worth place to visit while being in Frankfurt:) it is the center of the city - you have plenty of cafe & restaurants & activities around.
The building of Ratskeller (council room) adds extra beauty to this place. We had breakfast in Italian restaurant from where it was a nice view to the Alter Markt and we also tried Glühwein🍷in front of fountain ⛲️
I think the card of Römerberg are trees planted there (I tried to check in Google what are those trees- could not find name) but you can also see them while passing bridge to New side of Frankfurt

Make sure to look around the Romer (city hall) area near the water. You find Romerberg, a medieval square with buildings reminiscent of medieval yore. These quaint buildings house shops, cafes, restaurants and museums. A lovely little square to look around.

Of course your have to visit Roemerberg. It's a bit cliche but it's cliche for a reason. Plenty of nice restaurants nearby or just buy yourself a latte or a cone of ice cream and enjoy an hour or so of people-watching. Dont forget to tip the buskers.

Don't miss a visit to this lovely old town quarter when you're in Frankfurt. Beautiful looking buildings and the gorgeous sculpture. I visited during an autumn month. Would love to see how amazing it looks when the Christmas Market is there. Worth a visit. :)

Best place to learn Frankfurt history. Every major event is done at the Romer!! The christmas market especially!! Must go to especially for first timers in Frankfurt. At the Romer you can find two museums that teach about Frankfurt and German history.

Nice area to visit if you are on a short visit to Frankfurt. Walking distance to Cathedral and the strand. Something tells me it has been reconstructed after the war, at least it felt like an erzats. Oh well, nice photo opportunity.

Strolling back to our hotel from the Museums across the River Main, took us this area which was busy with many groups being guided around the various picturesque buildings. Great spot simply for sitting and watching whilst enjoying the general ambience. Your eyes tell you that this scene dates back for hundreds of years, although, in reality, nearly everything had to be rebuilt after the war.
