We were totally tired of long work hours we had during the week and definitely we did not have the energy to have a long trip. So we thought of visiting a village near by Frankfurt. Then we found this place, Bad Homburg. It is just 20mins from Frankfurt main railway station. We got help from a wonderful person who actually took us to this place. The moment we entered the park, we were just feeling so happy to have found this beautiful place for a walk. A walk in this castle park will rejuvenate you. The walk leads to the castle and the red church.

I visited 3 Christmas markets in the Frankfurt region: Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, and Bad Homburg. The market in Bad Homburg was small and charming. It was nestled right into the town and I parked in the garage right beneath the market - very convenient for someone with bad knees who cannot walk great distances. From that spot, I meandered into the old town a bit and across the little bridge and got some wonderful photographs with the real old town Germany feel and typical rooftop views from the bridge right by the market. The market is limited in scope, but there was a market stall with gorgeous star lights (made from paper perhaps?) and I had a sweet Nutella and banana crepe. I saw some folks eating a tempting looking flatbread with different toppings. I did not see any wursts sold at this market, but it's possible I missed something. I enjoyed a gluehwein and a local couple struck up a conversation with me. I loved this little market and felt a real sense of community that is missing in the larger markets. It also didn't have the mob feeling I got at the larger markets when evening approached. Small, sweet, and easy to visit. I got there before late afternoon when parking becomes more challenging. Don't miss the big markets as they offer more, but I think I prefer the small ones for the sense of "gemuetlichkeit!"

During my visiting the city, I was in this park and took several pictures. The park was nice with many beautiful flowers.

We only took a walk through the Castle buildings, but not the surrounding park. There was an interesting Tower to see and many interesting carvings and wall attachments. There was also a good view from one side.

If you visit Bad Homburg and don't visit the castle and garden , you will have missed one of its best attractions . A walk in the garden is well worth the time . Providing a beautiful landscape and a relaxing environment . The castle grounds are immaculate and joy to behold.

Did the tour with an English speaking guide . An interesting piece of the local history from the 1600's was presented and explained quite well. We were there on a rainy day and the garden was still well worth the walk.

Nice castle and garden... but beware of taking a terrible guided tour and being ripped of (even if it is only 4 Euros per person).

Renovation work is being done, but visitors aren't warned about this... so after 30 very boring minutes the "tour" is over... no discount, no compensation like the visit of the "Schlossturm".

But nevertheless you should visit by yourself this nice interesting historic part of Bad Homburg (castle and garden) and have a great time walking around (for free!)

Good idea would be investing the entrance fee for a drink in the "Schlosscafé"!

The schloss do guided tours for 4euro per adult in German only, however we were the only two on the tour at the time (on the hour) so the gentleman who showed us around did the tour in English. Some of the 17th century castle is under renovation right now, but there was plenty to see in the private apartments of Elizabeth, Landgravin of Hesse-Homburg, a daughter of British king George III.
