Between 1960 and 1962 the Beatles played a series of gigs in Hamburg when they were an up and coming young Liverpool band. In those days Pete Best was their drummer rather than Ringo Starr and Stuart Sutcliffe was their charismatic bassist. In Hamburg they met Astrid Kerchherr, who helped style their image. Beatles-platz is in Pauli where the Reeperbahn meets Grosse Freiheit. The band are represented as metallic cut-out figures making for fun photo opportunities.

Although Hamburg has always claimed its famous connection with the "Fabulous Four", the only place worth taking a look - or a photo - is this stack of metal figures on the Beatles' Platz. In reality, the band never seemed to be much proud of their stint and probably never had returned after they left. Hence, the memorial plaques with the name of "Beatles" on them did not seem much - so it appears futile to try tracing them along the Gross Freshet.

It is great to see where it all began for the Beatles however I didn't think I would be sharing the stage with the homeless as it seems that this is a hangout for them and I couldn't get a picture without one of them in it. Not to worry the Beatles-Platz is at one end of Reeperbahn which sums it up with what area it is in.

The neighborhood is sketchy. Even on a rainy afternoon my wife had concerns walking in the neighborhood. The platz is at the end of the street where the Beatles played in Hamburg. A vary interesting set of metal scruptures let’s you use your imagination to see The Beatles before they were the Beatles we all know and love.

The circular plaza is located on the Reeperbahn near the clubs where the Beatles started their career. It is shaped like a record. Steel framed figures of the band members playing their instruments are placed on one side of the plaza.

It is a must see for Beatles fans.

At daytime this looks like nothing. But when it gets dark it comes to life. Neon signs and lights reflects in the Beatles metal figures like magic.

Along the Reeperbahn we found Beatlesplatz. Before they were world famous, The Beatles performed a number of gigs in clubs around the Reeperbahn.

This square remembers their legacy with statues of the band and plaques with all their songs on the floor.

As i was told, some locals decided to create this memorial for the Beatles as they started in the early 60s here. Names of their songs decorate the pavement in a big vinyl form and there are 5 Aluminum figures depicting the early band. I felt sad because they deserve a more proper memorial

A Beatles fan most of my life. On being invited to a stag do in Hamburg I though here is a chance to evade some of the usual stag haunts and see some Beatles history.

In short this is not much to see. If you were not an ardent fan you would walk past this without a care. The steel outline of the band members, all 6, who were in Hamburg at any one time are I. Themselves a good idea. Placed upon the concrete pavement circle like a record with song titles all around us a great idea. It is however already tired and dirty.

During the night time economy it becomes the parking Platz fir various emergency vehicles who might have to enter the Grossefreiheit to attend to matters.

If not a fan. Give it a miss.

Not much to it. Maybe need some plaques with information. Doesn't really celebrate anything. And the location isn't ideal
