While touring the town hall, we came upon this lovely fountain in the courtyard. It dates back to 1895. It commemorates the cholera epidemic of 1892 when thousands and thousands of citizens of Hamburg died. As Hamburg is a maritime city, originally the statue was to have been in that style. But then someone had the idea of putting Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health and hygiene, as the central figure.

Okay, so I like fountains so I maybe a little prejudiced, but this, along with the fountain in Bad Harzburg are the best I have seen ever.

Very beautiful fountain located in the inner courtyard of the Hamburg Town Hall; it is dedicated to Hygieia, the Greek Goddess of Health and is composed of a basin that collects water and a base with some bronze sculptures like the rest of the Work, in the highest part there is another basin that collects the water and makes it fall into the lowest one, at the top the Statue of the Goddess Hygieia (Hygieia) holding a bowl from which the water falls.
