I was seriously unimpressed. Twice I saw large patches of blood on the pavement (yes I do know it was blood). The potentially beautiful buildings were an eyesore due to the almost complete cover of stickers, tagging, graffiti, and glued on posters. Many windows were smashed and the smell in the streets was the worst I have ever smelt in a Western city. Hamburg ought to be ashamed to have such a vile mess in it's midst.

I'd love the Schanze and Karoviertel. You still can feel the alternative spirit in this area. although it's gentrification moves on it's still a cosy place to be in the morning as in the evening. get a coffee and watch what's going on and enjoy. on weekends it's getting crowded and loud. walk around and enjoy. Must go place if you're in Hamburg.

I don´t get the fuzz about this neighborhood. All stinks and rots there.
Hipster prices in a punk atmosphere, the worse of the two words together.
The rote flora or whatever that homeless and pot smokers hole is called is scary during the night and constantly fetid.

We stayed in this neighbourhood during our stay. Loads of places to eat and drink, you will never go hungry here and you’ll never get bored. You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner at a range of independent cafes and restaurants. I loved this place and I can’t wait to return

We were looking for a neighbourhood in Hamburg with some character and some interesting shops, off the beaten tourist trap, and reviews on here suggested this could be it. Wrong! The area can only be described as shoddy, with the worst kind of mindless graffiti, that wasn't even pretending to be art, and a few scattered shops, offering almost nothing out of the norm. We couldn't think of a single redeeming feature. Definitely our worst couple of hours in an otherwise great city.

too counter-culture for my taste, drug dealers everywhere, violent protests from time to time... not my idea of a good time...

I feel in love with this area at our recent weekend getaway to Hamburg. Great shops (small local design stores mixed with everything else), playgrounds, great coffee and hang out places, food from everywhere in the world, colorful squats and guirilla gardens.
When I go back to Hamburg I want to stay at this place.

We spent a great morning in the Schanzenviertel neighbourhood looking for street art combined with good shopping and Nice food. The graffiti park was the highlight of our visit!
