We stayed in an apartment here for 4 nights and ate in a different restaurant on the street every evening.
It’s brilliantly central, close to the tram stops and the warehouse area. We even walked to the harbour in the rain.
The cobbles give the street a real touch of old world class and one side of the street backs onto the water.
There was a coffee shop on the street with a permanent queue outside.
It was a shame the manager of The Bohemian at #36 was so rude but he was an exception.
Well worth a visit, especially if you’re hungry.

Small but perfect, this tucked away street is a little slice of architectural history. Restaurants and cafes are the main businesses now so worth a lunch stop. Also spot the plaques to the Jewish fallen, they are all over the city and I found two here.

Deichstraße is the oldest remaining street in the Altstadt of Hamburg, and a bit of a tourist attraction for its historical value as well as the buildings which the city has made a lot of effort to conserve. There's a nice spot were the guides like to show the tourists, where the buildings had started leaning into each other and threatening the structural integrity of the whole block.
The back of the street faces on to the canal which is a nice place to see the street, but for the smell at low tide.

Deichstrasse is an adorable part of Hamburg that shows the historic buildings. It is also where the great fire started and there's a restaurant there who's name translates to "where the fire began". You can walk down a little alley and onto a platform on the water to see the back sides of the building. I really suggest it because it's a great view. Also, there's a house that is leaning over!

Lovely old buildings, some nice cafés and hangouts, go to the portside also. We loved the architecture, good for a stroll.

This is one of the historical buildings within the old town of Hamburg actually, and what its very nice is that the buildings feel old and historic, yet they are mostly occupied by great coffee places and all. Would go!

This street can be seen on the way to Warehouse District. There are 6 or 7 old houses to see from outside. You can also sit at the restaurants in their basement floors.

A few shops and houses on the street. But you can see where the Hamburg fire started plus one of the buildings still has scorch marks on it.

One of the oldest streets dating back to the 14th century. It contains a number of beautifully restored 18th century homes which are all that are left from the old harbour district. Many of the original buildings were destroyed in the great fire of 1842. Only a relatively short street but very quaint and worth a look.

The 8 surviving historic buildings are a nostalgic reminder of Hamburg's past but the tiny area can be enjoyed within half an hour. There's not much more to explore beyond the few restaurants.
