Rent bikes to take the family tour of the 7.5 km of beautiful lake, surrounded by villas each more beautiful than the last
Peaceful tower, full of bench and areas to rest. There are people but everyone can find their place

I love that there are some huge lakes in the centre of Hamburg and that they can be enjoyed by everyone. Dammtor and Hauptbahnhof are the nearest stations and there are lots of U-Bahn stations close by.
The main lake is massive and when I visited there were people sailing on the lake which was nice to see. There are also paths alongside the lakes so you can be close to the water even if you don't have sea legs.
There are also lots of benches so you can sit and relax and enjoy the view.
A great place to visit for your wellbeing.

This is a great place for a walk, jog, bike ride or boat ride.
It is tranquil and green and about 10 kilometres to walk all the way around the lakes.
There is also a large, impressive fountain in the smaller of the two lakes.
Lots of lovely places to sit and take the world in and to enjoy food and drink.

This is a pleasant are with lots to see, boats for rent, both sail and paddle as well as tour boats that function in a hop on hop off capacity. Much of the area is great for sight seeing, walking and bicycling. We enjoyed some of the dock style restaurants that are on the lake that provide everything from breakfest to dinner.

Located near the Rathaus, the three Alster Lakes are a central part of Hamburg life. There is a promenade where you can relax and enjoy the views and a park around the lake where you can relax. There is a fountain in the middle of one of the lakes. You can also take a cruise around the lake or rent a boat and go out on your own.
The lakes are lined with office buildings, hotels and restaurants and make for a very relaxing afternoon in good weather. A relaxing cruise around the lake is the best way to see them.

Two days running we walked round the lake and the 3rd day we took the 2 hour boat trip. Loads of benches to sit on. Lovely views all the way round. Great to see so many marinas serving food and drinks dotted around and the lake being used by just about everyone. Definitely recommend this location

I think visit the lake area is a must to get broader perspective on Hamburg. In sharp contrast to other areas of the city, the area surrounding the Aussenalster has some of the most exclusive property in Hamburg. The pretty lake is loved by locals and visitors alike. Its 10 KM circumference is lined by a shaded public park which is popular with joggers, cyclist, picnickers etc. Boats can be rented along the lake offering a serene break from hectic city life.

Written April 24, 2017
Hamburg near Alster Lakes close to town end the smaller Alter Lake for shopping, also near Baumwall station and Rathaus area lots to see.
For Amsterdam, I like around the red light area, lots of canals and architecture and bars.

What is the best draft beer in Germany?
Written April 19, 2017
There are no bad Draught (vom fass) in Germany. The secret is to setlle on whether you prefer Pils, Lager, Wheat, Dark then try those genres in each city or Town you travel to. German beers for the most part are pure ingredient beers you will not be disappointed. Try lots of them is best advice I can provide.
