We set out for our tour in an open boat of the two Alster lakes. The girl at the ticket booth was exceptionally unhelpful, but the captain of our boat was quite nice. We bought tickets on board and then waited almost 30 minutes to 'set sail'. But it was ok, because we were able to people watch while we... More

We were advised to take a daytime and an evening boat tour. Well we started with a day tour. Well there was no talk from the captain or person driving the boat we just had to look at the map. There are various points to stop off at but nothing much to do at some of them. Some of the... More

We had a wander around the Alster lake, admiring the very expensive looking houses that line the shores and enjoying the wildlife. This is a very peaceful area after the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping area of Hamburg, and on a sunny day it is a really beautiful area too.

Most of the tour boats have English handsets and the general sound system blaring German. It's difficult to hear either. But if your willing to make it a visual only experience, its quiet enjoyable

The Alster Lakes are a jewel in the middle of Hamburg. Regardless if you would like to just take a long walk around, sit on a bench (which are plentiful) or take a boat ride (join a group tour or rent a sail boat), this is a great place to hang out and relax. There are many different restaurants and... More

A beautiful spot for a stroll just a few minutes away from the main shopping streets. We went on a steamboat tour to see the linked lakes which was lovely. Kids got to pop into the engine room and got photos with the engineer's cap on!

For a relaxing time by the water, watching the world go by or just take in the scenic views, the lakes is well worth a visit. Sit with friends or family or try a cruise up and down the lake or just sit at one of the cafes with a drink, a small bite to eat or ice cream. Would... More

There are two lakes joined together, makes for a nice walk around the edge or explore on one of the boat trips.
