Hamburg being a big city that is hustling and bustling the Alster lakes are a heaven of piece and tranquility. it is a great escape and a perfect place to go for a walk. There are some quieter areas to the lakes and if you get more towards the Binnenalster it gets more busy with the streets and restaurants and... More

My husband, brother and I had the opportunity to take a 2 hour canal tour on the Alster Lakes and it was one of the most valued parts of our time spent in Hamburg. Having the opportunity to travel through the canals by boat really gave us a unique perspective of the city's beauty and culture. Traveling through main parts... More

To think that these lakes are here due to damming of the river to create a water-flow for millers. now you can't imagine Hamburg without them. They are covered with sailing boats and ferries and yet the tour guides tell you that you should be able to stand up in them anywhere. Never mind that, everyone knows that a city... More

Even though the Alster is in the Center of the City, the lakes are surrounded by trees and nature. it is a wonderful place to walk around, to run or just to sit and enjoy yourself... if the weather allows, as most days is raining. it is possible to practice multiple sports such as rowing or kayaking.

Loved the Alster, was lovely to relax and people watch as a break from shopping. I would highly recommend one of the boat tours around the lake. The views of the city are breath taking.

I walked around the lakes in winter and con only imagine how fantastic it would have been in spring and summer, a nice place to walk close to restaurants and bars for a pit stop a mist see for anyone visiting Hamburg.

One of the most attractive and distinctive features of Hamburg. The houses around the Aussenalster alone are worth a look.

We went on a boat trip around Alster Lakes, it was very informative, great views of Hamburg and some of the more exclusive homes and areas. An hour well spent.

At about 6kms long, this is a beautiful walk, with many chances at regular intervals to stop off for lakeside refreshments. The architecture lining the lake shore is also a very interesting mix and probably one of the finest places to live, anywhere!
