Where old Hamburg meets the new

Amazing buildings emerging from water, in a series of canals that reminds you instantly of Amsterdam.

We had a good time taking in the sites, visiting a few stores, getting an iced coffee. Totally worth an hour or so.

The first comes to mind when you walk among these channel block is that it is much the same style all brick houses and are very reminiscent of a Hanseatic town such as Amsterdam, but in a larger scale. There are also countless bridges (most of Europe reportedly), most built in the arched iron structures. We understand that most of... More

This place is really nice to walk around. Also good to take a boat tour and enjoy the atmosphere of historical warehouses. Still smells coffee which stored there last centuries, and imagine how nice to have one of the Persian or Turkish handwoven silk carpets passed from this warehouses

Built at the end of the 19th century, the "Speicherstadt", as it is called in German, is a monument of recent human aquatic history. Wandering around the red-brick warehouses, you can actually feel and relive the sounds of an old port, with cargo ships, freights and people working coordinated to deliver the goods. What is really interesting to watch for,... More

The warehause district is a must when visiting Hamburg, especially when the weather is tolerable. It can be easily be accessed on foot from city center or by public transportation.
