This is a huge museum full of interesting displays. Unfortunately there is very little information other than in German. They could do with audio tours for tourists. The staff lack any friendliness and the front door is shut on arrival. Our trip was also ruined...More

The Museum is more extensive than it looks from the outside. You can spend several hours touring the exhibits. We thought that it could have devoted more space to late 19th to early-mid 20th century Hamburg history. For a good museum devoted to Hamburg during...More

My sons and I have visited this museum several times. It brings to life history but also speaks to current issues. We enjoy the mixture of artifacts and thematic presentations. Thank you also for comments in English.

As the name suggests this museum is all about Hamburg and it's growth. A good early visit on a trip to the city to get a feel for the history of the people and their home.

This was my last attraction before leaving Hamburg after a 5 day visit. It really brought everything together; the seafaring economy, the Great Fire of 1842, Judaism in Hamburg, and an awesome 2nd floor model train set-up. With a Hamburg Card, which is included in...More

We could have spent longer here. There were some very interesting exhibits well laid out and explained (also in English). We found the small exhibit conerning the Nazi era and WW2 to be very interesting, but it could be significantly expanded. It is important for...More

Visited on the 23 Dec 18 Almost skipped it due to the various reviews mentioning about the lack of English descriptions. Firstly, I would say almost all of the displays have English descriptions- certainly excellent in terms of dual descriptions. The museum is on 3...More
