As someone who is a bit of a self proclaimed zoo addict, Hamburg zoo is one of the better parks. They have quite a large collection with some relatively unique species. Their Marine Mammal/Antarctic collection is unlike anything I’ve seen in other zoological collections. The park is filled with opportunity and exhibits to get up close and personal with their animals; including the kangaroo walk, the orangutans forest and penguin and farm exhibits. All the enclosures were created to easily and clearly display their animals, in keeping with natural appearance and environments (for the most part). The park was very spacious with plenty of room to explore without treading on other guest’s toes. The zoo is comparably priced with other international parks and Hamburg tourist attractions. If you have a free afternoon - give it a go.

We had a great day in Hagenbeck. The enclosures are beautifully landscaped and the whole park is beautifully green and extensive. We had the combined ticket for zoo and aquarium, which already costs a staggering 45€ for an adult and yet the fairy tale train costs again extra money and with 2.50€ for a ride (about 1 min.) also not exactly little, I thought that was a bit of a shame, because our son found it really great. We particularly liked the large playground. Also the aquarium is really worth a visit! We had a great day but the prices are of course juicy.

The Hagenstierpark aquarium is worth a visit. It has a separate entrance and is within walking distance of Hagenbecks Tierpark train station in 5 minutes. Admission for adults is 25€ for adults. In addition to fish such as rays , clounfish etc., there are also snakes and birds. Crocodiles are also there. All animals are well and safely housed. Birds have enough space to fly. A restaurant is also in the building.

Hello! I have been a Hagenbeck fan and visitor since I was 3 years old..and that was a long, long time ago. So I could write an infinite amount! My son has also known Hagenbeck since childhood! We have only ever experienced positive things..but I also notice the changes. Meanwhile families come with children and cones, that's OK, but I think only from 4-5 years old can the kids understand what they see and experience. And there are also plenty of food stalls and a large playground, where you don't go to an animal park to spend a long time in a playground - it's about "watching animals." The large playground at the fairground / Planten un Blomen is much better. AND jungle nights or not... sure it's always crowded, people care, the children are very scared (due to age) and loud it is also... but has anyone ever thought about the animals ?? - also from the "Hagenbeckers" ? They know their quiet nights, can retire... and with this action it is mega-loud for them..and a fireworks display is even worse... for the animals.. is already bad enough on New Year's Eve... even for forest animals!. THE BEAUTIFUL ZOO PARK should be enjoyed, every time I discover different things or look forward to seeing/watching my favorite animals again.. these are elephants and penguins ... the ice sea is great made!!! (I saw a king penguin couple "in love" recently... by chance! And the donkey was just born and poking around. It is sooo nice to see the many animal children..all are so golden, no matter what animal species - even in the toparium. TIP::: you can't do both in one day, take time for the many animals - inside and outside. You can go up to the "goat tower" (that's what I called it when I was a kid) and look down...at the goats and many other animals, that's great. At the orangutan house, it's always funny what they have so "on it," especially the "Lütten"--you could watch it all day. If someone still thinks the admission is "expensive"...then please consider what the daily feed alone costs, apart from care etc. BY THE WAY: you can become a sponsoring member, or donate or subscribe to the magazine ..that is not expensive and very interesting for young and old. You can also become an animal godfather...my godfather is the Humbold Penguin ANTONIO. So, now reading these lines it has become clear that it is an animal park and not an amusement park and that my animal love is so great that I even have a godfather animal!!! UND Hagenbeck also stands for animal and species protection and many breeding / conservation programs. AND at Hagenbeck are about 14,300 animals --- you can count :) . Children can already practice photography. AND there was once the great TV series: Leopard, fur seal & Co. ..also the repetitions are beautiful and educational. TIP: in the Ohlsdorf cemetery is the Hagenbeck family grave (worth seeing).

This had a great selection of animals and was just a short trip by train out of the centre of hamburg. I suppose the only thung my partner was sad about was the capybaras didn’t come out! Great walruses, tortoises, tigers and lions. Very friendly goats and the caribou was majestic! A great selection. Went on a saturday afternoon too and wasn’t too busy! Even has some mock dinosaurs. Whatever you do don’t get the coffee from the crepe station unless you want a very expensive drink of hot water :/ But great zoo!!

Brilliant zoo. Animals appeared well looked after. Polar bears and elephants were amazing. It was snowing when we went so extra special. Really easy to get to from train station, 5 min walk

We went to the zoo and aquarium. Both were excellent! The park itself was beautiful with a lot of pretty and interesting plants, the animals looked well taken care of and had plenty of space. There were a lot of rest stops and bathrooms, as well as several places to buy snacks and beverages. There was also a large playground for the children, which our son greatly appreciated. The aquarium was larger than we'd expected, and had a beautiful design. We had been warned that there might be a line to get on, but there wasn't for us, and didn't feel crowded at any point. This was by far the high point of our stay in Germany. Highly recommend a visit!

Pros and cons - but overall a decent day out for families and certainly there is plenty to do/see. For one adult and two children it cost €111 which, although expensive, is in-line with what you'd expect to pay at a modern zoo.

Firstly, the highlights: the tropical aquarium is wonderful. I wasn't sure about booking this part as it pushes up the cost quite a bit, but it was well worth it. Unique experience and a fabulous mix of tropical and marine animals. They have a big Nile crocodile, rays, sharks, poison arrow frogs, scorpions and lots more. The layout is well-designed, giving you different angles and ways to view the animals.

In the main zoo, we also loved the happy and lively orangutans in their house with the playful otters. The walruses being fed was another standout (they are huge!). There Bactrian camels, two species of flamingo, and a fabulous Arctic section with lots of penguins.

Downsides: some of the larger animals are clearly lacking stimulation and are distressed. The elephants were inside in a dreary house when we visited, with a female elephant pacing in one spot. The tigers were also heavily pacing in their enclosure and the lions look bored and subdued. Disappointingly, the jaguars, polar bears, and brown bears weren't on show during our visit. Some of the enclosures also have heavy condensation on the windows from the cold weather outside - meaning you can see absolutely nothing. The layout of the zoo is baffling and you'll definitely end up looping back and going around in circles trying to find a specific animal/attraction.

We ate some lunch and had a snack there - the food was perfectly fine, priced as you'd expect, and the staff were lovely.

I'd put Tierpark Hagenbeck at 3.5/5. If you're planning on visiting, I'd recommend arriving early, booking the aquarium if budget allows, and bringing a packed lunch to make it a full day out.

We went through jungle night. Unfortunately, no comparison to the jungle nights before Corona.
It was way too crowded! Also you had to rush from program point to program point to see nothing because it was just too crowded. At the end, unfortunately, not fireworks but a short laser show with fountains that could only be seen from one point, the Asian Pavilion. But there sat only the Hagenbeck boss, well protected from the light rain shower.
At the entrance we had the feeling that the dark-skinned drummers were just drumming to "torpedo" the protest society of employees (union). At that time there were a lot more program points in the park and there was always something going on. It was all much more relaxed and cozy. After the visit I had a whistle on my ears for a long time. I don't need that again. Schade. Better go to the zoo.

We were a little disappointed. Certainly also because we are spoiled by our zoos (Wilhelma, Karslruher Zoo etc). Nevertheless, we thought that Hagenbeck Zoo should offer more and that it is a little larger.
4,90€ for a 0,5 L water I find completely overpriced. Besides, the deposit bottles aren't even taken back. The food in the restaurant was okay also priced. We were there about 3-4 hours.

Clearly too crowded!!!! Buy ice cream, 1 hour 10 minutes in line.
Fire show - not to see, just to hear... Water show at 23 h, no way to see this, just laser in the air.... just way too many people.
Why are the tickets not sold for certain nights ? You buy a ticket and you can come when you want, that's not really visitor-friendly.

I was there with great people, the evening was nice for me, animals could not really be seen well as there were clearly far too many people in the park.

Luckily we had drinks with us!!

... then not to forget the approach .. a disaster!!!!

Too bad!!! - Especially for children..

We wanted to go to the tropical aquarium with our great nephew (2 1/2 years old). He had broken his leg and therefore had to use a wheelchair. We called beforehand and asked if wheelchairs were allowed, as strollers and buggies are not allowed (which I don't understand, :-( Sealife and other aquariums allow it. It's for children - right?). After we (my husband and I) paid 50 euros just for the aquarium, a guard at the entrance to the aquarium told us that we were not allowed in with the child, as he did not have a disability card and only disabled people with a disability card are allowed in wheelchairs. I explained that my little one had had an accident and had visibly broken his leg. The guard stuck to his opinion :-(.

We were very disappointed with the price-performance ratio and expected more for the high entrance fee. You get the feeling that everything is put into the ice world and the rest suffers from it. We wouldn't visit him like that anymore because we know some other zoos for comparison. It's a shame.

We decided to visit this famous Zoo (one of the oldest in the world) over the Easter weekend on Good Friday.
We decided to purchase the combo tickets which allows access both to the Zoo itself an stage Tropical Aquarium. Tickets were not cheap €40 each for one adult.
We began our visit by going into the Tropical Aquarium first and I have to say this was the best part of the overall experience.
I've never seen seen such hugh aquariums before it was amazing.
The Zoo or tierpark itself was OK but I found that some of the enclosures were rather small for some of the bigger animals ,e.g. Elephants. So a bit disappointed with that in have to say. I guess you have to remember that the City of Hamburg has encroached upon the park over many years which limits development, hence a 4 and not a 5.
If I were to visit again I would certainty go to the Tropical Aquarium that was impressive, but the Zoo no.

Who likes to go to a zoo where, according to my observations, animals are teased, chased, kicked by visitors, fed poison, where children are carelessly placed on enclosure barriers. The zoo is ranked 23rd in the national ranking of 25 zoos/animal parks according to an employee. It is up to each reader what they think of it. You are not allowed to have an opinion of the management. On other platforms, when a star is awarded, the rating is removed. In my opinion, a false picture is being presented here.

I read a lot of reviews before visiting about not much to see and small enclosures - this is the longest I have ever spent in a zoo and the first time I have gone back to see sections again. The animals all have lots of space, it just might not all be open to visitors which is quite right. There were so many areas where I got really close to the animals it was absolutely amazing!

We bought the joint ticket, to see the Aquarium and the Zoo online before we went. We visited the Aquarium first. Its really well laid out and has a lot I have never seen before. We fed the Elephants fresh leaves they just hoover it up 😁. Some parts of the Zoo were getting renovated but we still seen lots of animals. Really enjoyed the penguin 🐧 place. Really nice Chai tea and pizza from the little trucks.
