A great city hike

You don"t usually get this many stairs in when in the city. The alley ways, the architecture of the houses, the deer park. Everything here remind you of a seaside town and it's perfect. Make sure it's a sunny day so you can see the full distance.

The "Treppenviertel" in posh Blankenese is an interesting sight and well worth a visit! In order to get an impression of the grand villas along the famous "Elbchaussee" (ca. 10 km or 6 mls. long), take the fast bus no. 36 from the city center (e. g. Rathausmarkt or Jungfernstieg, every 20-30 mins. -- buy a ticket with a fast-bus supplement!) to the Blankenese S-Bahn station. At the station, change to bus no. 488 which takes you around Blankenese and back to the station (every 10 mins.). The bus has stops at several "Treppen" that one can walk down to the river (ca. 5 mins.) to get a good view of the very unique setup of Blankenese. The "Treppen" are narrow and steep cobblestone paths -- decent shoes with grip are useful, esp. when it rains. The "Strandtreppe", e. g., takes you directly to the Blankenese ferry pier. Directly on the pier, the little "Fischclub" restaurant can be recommended, even though it doesn't look like much from the outside. They offer good seafood, but also other things, including nice desserts and cakes.

Come here by ferry (or take the ferry when you're done) and walk up the stairs around the Treppenviertel. Turn around once in a while to enjoy the view over the Elbe.

Lovely and charming place if you like walking. You will find true hamburgians here on weekends strolling along the River or through the Treppeniertel. Worth a trip.

I love it! Countless stairs and alleys, great views of the water, the beautiful houses and finally the great beach at the river.
For every traveller who wants to discover something special, far away from the hustle and bustle.

Get a feel of the mediteranian near Hamburg

If you like steep cobblestone streets that go up and down pitoresque houses, you've come to the right place. Despite that, Blankenese is not spoiled by big hotels or catering chains yet. Let's hope it stays that way.

Visiting Blankenese and the Treppenviertel offers many nice views and shows an area of Hamburg tatally different from the rest of the City. There are beautiful restaurants with views over the river and especially on a weekend in summer you see hundreds of sailing boats leaving Hamburg or sailinf off to the North Sea. Its really worth a visit.

Get out to Blankenese for a quiet day at the Elbe. Walk down the stairs and chill out on the beach or at the restaurant over the water. It is lovely.

Blankenese -- without the sweat
Aug 2018 • Couples
Not all travelers are hearty enough to climb several flights of steps to enjoy the unique, very interesting community. If you are among those, take either a bus or the S-bahn to the Blankenese S-bahn station at Erik-Blumenfeld-Platz. Then change to Bus 48 which makes a circular route from and back to Erik-Blumenfeld-Platz. If you like, you can walk down part way and return with the bus, or hop off the bus, explore, and catch the next one back. Bus 36 from central Hamburg is a beautiful drive from the Rathaus Altona to its terminus at Blankenese. All this travel is included with an AB day ticket.
