This is one of the main market place in Hamburg, apart from MonckerbergStrasse. You can find the Alster on the one side and the Alster Wall (another up-market shopping area) on the other. The locality is full of activity, take a tour of the Alster or take a boat ride, or eat at any of the budget or upmarket restaurants - entire culture of Hamburg is before your eyes.
During the weekends, the Alster fountain is in service that provides an excellent view from the east side of the Alster.

The bright lights reflected on the inner Alster lake make this waterfront stretch especially pleasant and charming. The food and drinks at the Christmas market stalls are very good quality and inexpensive. Highly recommended.

there are the shops and the classic Alsterhaus a very fancy department store and lots of specialty store. For the children there is also a Steiff collection in the toy department. Around the corner are the Alsterarkaden a beautiful shopping arcade with several wonderful restaurants and on our visit there was a wedding going on with the lucky couple having their photos taken. Along the Jungfernstieg are also attractions along the waterfront of the Binnenalster . which offer boat rides clearly that is more for the better weather period than the winter time but it doesn't hurt to mention it. There are of course some very beautiful specialty stores one of which is an Amber Jewelery store which has been there for generations and has some exquisit creations.

Far from its ancient elegant "see and be seen" atmosphere, this is now THE place to be. Hustle and bustle, terrific shops, restaurants and large and small department stores and boutiques, this is were it all happens.

Situated beautifully on the Alter Lake, in Jungfernstieg you have it all: here are the high-end stores and name brands, plus the home of Nivea, and even an Apple store. I love everything at Jungfernstieg, especially the wonderful Europa Passage mall. You really can find every kind of food, gift, clothing and accessories, and specialty shops here. It's the hub of all the U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations (you can catch U1, U2, U3 and U4 around this station) so public transportation is a breeze, and there is even an hour of complementary internet for shoppers. It's fun to go shop, just walk, or people watch. There is definitely something for everyone. And it is the heart of the Christmas shopping in Hamburg come wintertime. Jungfernstieg is not to be missed!

I have spent hours walking around the Jungfernstieg area. There is lot of great shopping including Alsterhaus, the Apple Store (which was able to squeeze me with no notice to download an update to my US formatted iPad!), Thalia and all of the upscale shops you would expect in a city center. The area is surrounded by the Alster lake which provides a very impressive backdrop.

We did not go to it but did visit sites farther out than it. Walking was not an issue from Rathaus. Was raining on return and we jumped the U-Bahn going back. Yes google it for walking distances. Its on the way to minitature wonderland which we considered a must see

Easy to get around on the metro. With one day you should go to the Old Town near Rathaus and tour around there,
Make certain to visit Minatur Wunderland.
Great city you will enjoy it a lot.
Hit me back with a helpful vote.
