- Lauro ACuritiba, PR38 contributionsPart of my family history in this great museum. We went to Hamburg to know the port our great grandfather used to leave Europe to move to Brazil with his family. This museum was a great experience to understand the context they were in the time they decided to immigrate. Understanding this context make you understand the courage they had to have to get the whole family in a ship trying to find a better place to live.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 6, 2024
- GemsNIArmagh, United Kingdom666 contributionsHuge amount of artifacts and miniature models! This was a huge 9 stories of artifacts relating to ships, life on the sea, exploration, science, maritime artwork, machinery relating to engines/turbines etc. and of course, lots and lots and lots of ship models (Hamburgers seem to love miniature models!) Very interesting, there are stools that you can carry around to use, i would recommend as this place is massive. You would need a full day if you wanted to read everything! Not all written information is in English.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 5, 2024
- KELLY C55 contributionsIncredible Maritime museumThe worlds largest collection of boat models is only a the start! Nine stories of history, artifacts fill this historic building. The art work of maritime master artists is outstanding, and by it self enough to enjoy ! A great way to spend time with history filled displays.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 5, 2024

Wow this musuem is amazing! It is 10 floors packed from floor to ceiling! My husband and I spent all afternoon there but you could spend a whole day there. We liked the fact that it really did have an international feel, with exhibits from all over the world, except for the fact that only some of the wording was in English. I know we were in Germany but a museum of this type does really appeal to people from all over the world, so it would make sense to have more English translations. That is the only reason that I am marking it 4 starts not 5 stars.
Tip....half way round the museum follow your noise to find the little coffee stop. Yes it is out of a machine, but the coffee was lovely and it is certainly nice to have a sit down halfway through a museum of this size!

This is the best Maritime Museum I have visited. Whatever you might wish to know about seafaring, warships, naval technology, navigation, maritime history - it is all here. My only regret is that I just had two or three hours here on the last day of my visit to Hamburg. I could easily, and happily, have spent a whole day in this museum alone. If you have any interest in matters maritime this museum is for you. Depending on the level of your interest you might not want to explore the entire museum, but all its wonders are there for you to choose from.

Be prepared for an overload of information of maritime related subjects, ranging from history to paintings, sailor uniforms to miniature ships figures, the list just goes on, This is definitely a museum for people who are fascinated by ships of all sorts, from the medieval ships to battle warships to civil modern day cruise and cargo ships.
Considering the admission fee is €15, I think it is worth it if you are a huge fan of ships. If not, you will find it boring and repetitive.
I would say overall the ship collection is very impressive and aviators massive. One word of caution is that there is quite a number of exhibits that only have German descriptions, I found myself getting bored as a go along since I am not receiving any information about the exhibits in English.

In general a collection of maritime bits n’ bobs... not much interactive education. Seen from a naval achitectural point of view, there are a lot left to be exposed and shown for the future generation. I would be afraid that museums like this is scarring away the youngsters for choosing a maritime career, especialy the girls....

Anybody even slightly interested in shipping, sea travel etc., should invest a few hours to explore this really nice and impressive private collection of many different items, incl. maps, model ships, paintings, navigational and other instruments, etc. etc. which is housed in a beautiful old warehouse on 10 floors.

My son (13 years old) and I loved this museum. The range of exhibits is excellent and there is something interesting for everyone. We visited all nine floors, and stayed for about 3 hours. The ticket allows visitors to leave and re-enter. It is an extensive museum that presents the history of life on sea, exploration of the sea and has models of every type of major battle, ship/ocean-going craft, and a wonderful collection of art. This is a must-do in Hamburg.

International maritime museum is keeping exhibits from ancients to modern times. You can find not only ships or boats here, but in-depth look of naval history, explorations, cruise ships, fishing and etc.
Museum is a massive 9-storey building, thematically organized. I went there with my 3 year old niece who was totally amazed and inspired by the limitless number exhibits.
Could not get any better. 100/100

This was our first visit to Hamburg's maritime museum. It had 9-floors of maritime stuff, from paintings to models to weapons to uniforms to history to a container ship simulator. It was very well done. Highly recommend it, especially in a rainy day.

We tried to fit in as much of Hamburg as possible and this was the best museum of the lot.
9 floors of amazing exhibits that bring the maritime history of Hamburg and the world to life. This is a truly amazing place.

Firstly 7 floors are just a bit too many, if you don’t want to spend the whole day there, you don’t know where to start and what to skip. Secondly things could just be done in a much more interactive and interesting way, especially since it’s fairly new. Like this it’s just another museum - wouldn’t recommend. Additionally the front desk staff was extremely unfriendly :(

Abbiamo usato la metropolitana. In albergo si trova la cartina delle linee, e non ci sono difficoltà. La zona del museo è caratteristica e vale una passeggiata fotografica. Buona visita!
