If you're a fan of model ships this place will definitely keep you going. There is a huge range of things to look at in the museum with model ships and weapon collections being our two particular highlights. It looks like you're supposed to start from the bottom and work up but top to bottom works just as well and... More

Ideal for a rainy day this place gives you a lot of details about everything related to sea faring. We have spent there over 2.5hrs but reached only to the 2nd floor where we spent most time trying to control a huge ship using simulator (they have special sessions for that - a lot of fun!). We needed to run... More

The is a great museum for all maritime and ship enthusiasts. The museum is exceptionally well set in the speicherstadt and spreads over 9! Floors. It gives a great night into various maritime topics, like ship building, logistics, sea battles, technology, art etc. The exhibits of uniforms and medals are exceptional. Artifacts include rare Marshall batons of Grossadmiral Raeder and... More

This collection is simply overwhelming! Living in Hamburg, we have visited this museum at least 10 times so far - and there is always something new to find and explore for every age. Friendly advice - check the website Prior to visit and pick your personal "raisins"; on your visit, do these first before exploring the rest of the exhibition.... More

Don't know about audio guide as I didn't rent one. But the leaflet is basically useless and only main informations about exhibit are translated. For an international museum it could certainly use more internationality.

There is so much to see here that if you are interested in this kind of stuff you will need about 2-3 hours to fit it all in. 9 floors of all stuff maritime and even if any part of it is not to your taste, there will be something of interest to most people.

Hamburger Maritimes Museum has won another fan. Its exhibiting the story of the Sea from A to Z. Would recommend taking a full day to explore the vessels, science, techniques, war, trade and even climate change. If your feet get tired you can take a nap behind the pirate sections display wall (seriously, there are cushions and blankets). The entire... More

Being ex RN, I have a bit of an interest in all things maritime. As a family we visited Hamburg a couple of years ago and passed on this museum. It was top of our (well my) list this time around, although much to the annoyance of my 12 year old daughter who had planned out a day's shopping for... More

We hadn't really planned to visit the Maritime Museum but we're so glad we did. Whilst exploring Hafen City, we got caught in a heavy rain shower made the decision to pop in. Although, the price tag seemed a bit steep, it was good value. The Museum is perfect for families and staff were friendly and accommodating of our 2.5... More
