There is so much here you probably need most of the day , or more than one visit ....
The collection of model ships , (Which run into hundreds ) & the art work is really interesting.
I really enjoyed this place .

I enjoyed visiting here, learnt lots and appreciated the English translations on Exhibits. It felt very historically balanced. However, there are a lots of models and I didn’t feel quite as enthused, on leaving, as I did having visited the equivalent in Gothenburg. Gothenburg seemed to offer more human interest rather than just for your maritime geeks. I’m being picky - a decent 4 stars just not quite 5.

Nine floors on which there are exhibits about the sea, ships, equipment, people, models, and pieces of art. There is too much information for one visit.

My son (13 years old) and I loved this museum. The range of exhibits is excellent and there is something interesting for everyone. We visited all nine floors, and stayed for about 3 hours. The ticket allows visitors to leave and re-enter. It is an extensive museum that presents the history of life on sea, exploration of the sea and has models of every type of major battle, ship/ocean-going craft, and a wonderful collection of art. This is a must-do in Hamburg.

An astonishing museum ! 9 floors of wonders !
A very complete history of the sea, many different topics addressed (military, exploration, boat marking techniques). The whole museum requires at the very least 3 hours

Very interesting and informative musuem.
Spread across multiple floors covering the history from when man first set sail to the modern day.
It covers aspects of civilian as well as military maritime history.
Lots of exhibits to look at as well as read.
Most of the information was in German but some exhibits had English translation as well.
To be able to take in all the information will take a while, between 2 and 3 hours so ensure you give yourself enough time to absorb it all.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. We were recommended to start at the top and work our way down.
There is also a really cool lego build of the Queen Mary 2!

Firstly 7 floors are just a bit too many, if you don’t want to spend the whole day there, you don’t know where to start and what to skip. Secondly things could just be done in a much more interactive and interesting way, especially since it’s fairly new. Like this it’s just another museum - wouldn’t recommend. Additionally the front desk staff was extremely unfriendly :(

Anybody even slightly interested in shipping, sea travel etc., should invest a few hours to explore this really nice and impressive private collection of many different items, incl. maps, model ships, paintings, navigational and other instruments, etc. etc. which is housed in a beautiful old warehouse on 10 floors.

This was our first visit to Hamburg's maritime museum. It had 9-floors of maritime stuff, from paintings to models to weapons to uniforms to history to a container ship simulator. It was very well done. Highly recommend it, especially in a rainy day.
