    A Giant Main Train Station
You can connect through the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof to get most anywhere. It can get a little confusing to find the S train and U-Bahn tracks, so allow for extra time to find the correct level of platforms to be on. This is also one of the few places in Germany I have been approached and somewhat harassed by an aggressive unhoused person, so please keep your wits about you as you search for your platform.

    Large
A large station, arrived and departed from here, used a hub for S Bahn most days here. Plenty of food outlets and as you can imagine a lot of people milling about. Bit uncomfortable outside main entrance due to "hanging about people" which I'm afraid doesn't give a good impression to first time visitors to Hamburg that arrive by train.

Great food hall and shopping complex inside.
We didn’t catch a train to or from here but caught a bus to here to get on the hop on hop off bus! we were very surprised at the amount of restaurants, and the food hall and shopping available inside the station, and a lot of the vendors spoke English. Very impressed! If only we had known the food hall was there before we ate a very mediocre and expensive for what we ordered meal at the cafe outside and served by unfriendly rude owners, who couldn’t even force a smile, or be polite enough to say Thankyou when being paid. Clean toilets in the complex but directions were a bit hard to follow to find them so had to ask some security guards there who were most helpful!

Travelling through Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (train station), it turned out to be a highlight of my brief visit to Hamburg.
Stunning German Train station - with cast iron roof - a relic of better design days.
Fairly easy to find your way around.
Lots of shops / cafes, left luggage.
Helpful ticket office who are fluent in English - thank you.
Nice first class lounge.
Very busy even on a Sunday.

This is another huge train station in Germany. There are a lot of platforms and so many people.
It was kinda hard to navigate our way around and there wasn't to many places to ask for any kind of help.
There are so many shops and places to grab food like other stations. Everything is open quite late also.

I pass through Hamburg Hbf often as I change trains when going south.
This time, as always a bad experience.

Extremely crowded and stressful so most people get pushy. Angry people serving poor quality food. Many people with a hard life who should at least have a bench to sit on.

A rough experience which makes me think twice before booking trains southwards.

The station was opened for visitors in 1906 and in 1941, during the Second World War, the station was badly damaged by Allied bombing. Several areas needed to be rebuilt completely. Now it is very busy place with unfortunately also many strange people wandering there.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is a fairly conventional German design, especially one in a large city. There's several departure boards around the station and the platforms are all easy to find. The platforms are on a lower levels accessible by stairs and the shops are arrayed on an upper levels on either ends of the building. There's no shortage of shops, restaurants and cafes. I even ate dinner and lunch here a few times.

Buying SIM card from Hamburg airport may be more expensive (they charge a fee >€10 to settle the line and register for you). Once you alight at Hamburg hbf station, walk out of it and head towards the shopping arcade. There is a O2 store, go there and purchase your prepaid SIM card. The staff are friendly and would gladly help to register it for you. Simple and only €9.99.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BUY IT FROM THE HBF'S ROSSMANN (LOCATED AT L2). Only purchase it if you can understand German, cos you'll still have to register the SIM at the nearest post office or via an online app-- not worth the trouble for a SIM!!

Got excellent help of the DB staff when we missed a train connection due to delays in traffic. It's never fun to get delayed by several hours, but at least there is staff here that helps out.

Large, but easily accessible station in Hamburg, staff are very friendly, and also very amenable to helping those with disabilities.

As a good traveller, I love railway stations and we made a point visiting this one, even in fact, we stayed just around the corner from it. It is fascinating to watch the German clock-like precision and order at work, streamlining the visual and sound chaos of train departures and arrivals, shoppers milling about, passersby and the loud speaker announcements.

It's a big central station. There are a lot of platforms and always lots of people. The guys working at the information are handsome. There is nothing specific to be seen but there are a lot of shops inside the station and also a lot of good cafes and pubs outside it.
