Weekly market at the Nauener Tor, one of three preserved city gates in Potsdam. Fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat and sausages were on offer. Flowers and other everyday items were also available for purchase. A nice, not too big weekly market.

Beautiful city gate and some great cafe's nearby such as Labender at no. 14 with some patrons jamming away on their guitars.

This gate still remians from the 1700's and is next to the Dutch quarter.
It's located at a nice, small square and as you leave the historic inner city area you can pass through this gate and admire the massive wall.

Stumbled upon this while walking through Potsdam. Wasn't sure what it was (sign of course in German) however looks quite novel, like it belongs in a theme park!
There are some nice cafes around where we enjoyed some food and the view of these arches as the tram and cyclists went through.

From a historical point of view, this is an interesting place. From an aesthetic point of view, it’s just normal. The interest can only be caused by someone who would like to make some not ordinary photo or draw that gates.
So, overall, this is just an ordinary old gate.

Built in 1755 it's one of three gates in Potsdam. At the beginning it was connected with the other two (Jägertor and the Brandenburg Gate) with city walls. But as these walls don't exist anymore, a promenade connects now the three gates.
Frederick the Great made a sketch and architect Johann Gottfried Büring brought it to life in Neo-Gothic style. Many people connect it to the Scottish Castle Inveraray but for many reasons, it's not the case. Most probably Frederick had in his mind Castle Rheinsberg, where he had spent time as Crown Prince and loved it in a special way. In 1867-69 the Gate was rebuilt by King William I and remained as it is today.
It's close to the Dutch Quarter, in the very centre of Potsdam. A lot of restaurants and bars surround it, with outside seating during dry days.

This is a nice enough Tor or gate positioned on one of the main shopping streets and agreed its fairly impressive and adds some nice ambiance to the old town feel but that's about it. There is a restaurant at the base but not opened when we visited. Nice to have seen but I wouldn't go out of my way for the experience.

I found this structure very amusing. Looks like a gateway to fantasy land. Reminded me of some disney movie that i watched in my childhood.

From a distance it looks very impressive and beautiful however when you get close to it the gate appears to be very modern and not a part of the old city of Potsdam at all. This takes away from its character.
