I really liked this building; I am fond of pink! I would recommend coming when there are no other tourists. There is a gorgeous view (and photo opportunity) with this building being paired by the church behind it. A wonderful place to visit, for sure.

Well, I would say that this is a pretty building that would be interesting for a tourist to see as for a not very big city. In any case, its external side and the area near which it is located. If you have little time or you do not want to spend it on something simple, small-town-sight - you should not go here.
For me, I was curious to walk along the square near this building, and go into its courtyard to look at the nice arbors in it. Just like a regular walk around the city at home.

You might not be able to go inside but who cares when the outside if this beautiful and photogenic. The buildings are gorgeous in the early morning light with the sun reflecting the different colours.

The main attraction in Potsdam remains the Sanssouci muzeal complex, however, if you just have a few hours available, possibly on your arrival or on your last day in town, a walk to the Landmark and surrounding neighbourhood is just the thing to do.

The City Palace built in1669, had a makeover under King Frederick II in 1745, who appointed architect, Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, (he also designed Sanssouci Palace), for the job. The major offensive by the British on 14th April 1945, caused heavy damage to the Palace, although, it is believed the Palace was still salvageable. The GDR didn’t agree, in 1959 they demolished everything that was left of the structure, fortunately, the people of Potsdam rescued important pieces of the façade. The site eventually became roads and a traffic intersection. In 1990 the city wanted the historical buildings back in Alter Markt/Old Market Square, so began the long haul and expense of achieving this.

The Fortuna Portal, the entry to the inner courtyard, was rebuilt, with the inauguration taking place in 2002.

The Parliament in 2005, passed a resolution for a new parliament building, to be constructed based on the old City Palace. The first foundation stone was laid on 16th February 2011, with inauguration taking place on the 21st January 2014. The façade has been faithfully replicated, while the interior is modern.

Written in gold letters, on the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, side of the Landtag Brandenburg is, “Ceci n'est pas un château”, (this is not a castle). It is by artist Annette Paul and is referencing the René Magritte, painting "Ceci n'est pas une pipe," (this is not a pipe). Just down from the quote, is a row of columns, these are the remains of the original palace.

Two installations, in the inner courtyard, are called Zugabe/Encore, created in 2014 by Florian Dombois, they are an illusion, inspired by Sanssouci Palace.

Information is sourced from the official Landtag Brandenburg website.

The Landtag Brandenburg is beautiful, as is the square, the people of Potsdam have done an amazing job with recreating their historical buildings.

Another major site in the old town square, the Alter Markt is the Landtag Brandenburg, formerly the palace of the city. Today it houses the the Parliament of the state of Brandenburg. The City Palace provides a magnificent view of the square below. I was on a bike tour so it was a shame not to be able to go in and explore.
