Take a train to Potsdam station. To go to the garden, take bus 96. U may buy a day trip tourist ticket on the bus to visit other places in Potsdam. A local map can be obtained at a counter when u come out of the train station, one floor up where the shopping or cafes are.

In the station there is an info centre that is very obvious so you can get a free map there. I asked them about bikes and they directed me to a company from platform 7 I think. It was 11euro to use till 7pm they gave a suggested cycling path on a map but it was quite hard to navigate.... More

Hiring a bike outside the train station enables you to get around the vast grounds in just a day - you will need that long to do the area justice.

We walked around the gardens that are huge and had a great time. Lush vegetation, lakeside, wide paths. Saw people biking, will rent bikes next time.

Yes see it but here's something no one tells you .. go to Neues Palais and when you are there you can walk the long path that looks like it never ends (view my photo that looks like just green bushes)...that pathway leads to 4 of Potsdam major attractions which none of the brochures I looked at stated. Save yourself... More

One of the main attractions in Potsdam the gardens. It is absolutely stunning, wonderful. Hopefully you plan enough time to walk around, or take the little train.

It was not so sunny and the weather was quite pleasant when we had the opportunity to go around the gardens here. We wish we had more time to enjoy the place. I would recommend taking the small train that tours the gardens and gives you an insight of the place as well as it saves you the effort of... More

The gardens are beautiful, I just wish I had more than a day. I would recommend spending a night or two in town and as the grounds are vast, renting a bike. You won't be disappointed.
