We visited both castles (Sans souci and the other one) and the gardens around it. We went by train from Berlin, it was easy!
First, Sanssouci castle was a wonderful work of art! The interiors are beautiful and the audioguide is definitely worth it since it describes everything very well. The castle is one of the best I've visited! It is well preserved and a beautiful testimony to the taste of Friederich II. The gardens around the castle were equally beautiful!
Second, we visited the other castle (Neue castle I think...) The interiors were impressive also and it is worth going for a visit. I have to say that ther only room I think you should not miss is the one covered in sea shells ; the other ones can be done quickly since it's pretty much the same as many other castles...
Definitely go to Sanssouci first and the gardens around and then go to the other castle.

It wasn't planned. When I found out that Potsdam is a world heritage site about 45 min from Berlin, I was tempted to make the trip but was afraid it would messed up my schedule. But I asked myself, would I get another chance if I miss it and whether I can strech my time and physical condition. I am so glad now that I went ahead, it is one of the most beautiful places I have visited and a nice breakaway from the hussle bussle of Berlin city.
Must see the Sanssouci Palace and Neues Palace. Take a bus to the former, walk thru the Sanssouci Park and you will also see Oranerie Paradiesgarten and Chinesisches Haus. Then exit at the Potsdam university to catch a bus to Luisen Platz where you will be able to cover Dampf-maschinenhaus, Brandenburger Tor, Nauener Tor, Hollandisches Viertel and Nikolai Kirche. Have ur lunch at one of the cafe if u fancy before taking the tram and head back to the terminal.

Early morning in these beautiful gardens is like something out of Keat's Ode to Autumn- the whole Potsdam experience is so worth the trip from Berlin.

A train ride from Berlin main station gets you here in 40mins. Don't get off in Potsdam centre make sure you are on a Brandenburg train that stops at Sanssouci (two stops further on). Then enjoy a few hours wandering in some amazing architecture and landscaped gardens. There can be many visitors on a sunny weekend but you can always find a corner to yourself. It is free to get in but you must pay to enter any of the buildings. It would be a great place to come with bikes.

There's the Neues Castle, Sans Souci and Cecillehof Castle. All of them beautiful and very interesting. You can take a guided bus tour offered at the Postdam Haupbahnhof (train station) for Euro15 that will take you to the 3 castles and will explain all the history. Then, they will leave you in the City Center, where you can walk to the Brandenburg Gate of Postdam, built 200 years before the one in Berlin. There are many restaurants, shops, etc ... around and a very nice water fountain. Otherwise, there are local buses that will take you to each castle.

Large and beautiful.
Take a walk around and you will have a pleasant moment. To visit some other points at Potsdam you need to walk through the gardens

If you're planning a trip to Berlin make sure you make it your business to put a day aside to visit Potsdam. This is without doubt one of the most beautiful places that I've visited and the history is extremely interesting.
After a day of touring the palaces and the parks there are some amazing cafes / Ice-cream parlors to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Just a small tip, I'd avoid booking your trip with one of the operators in Berlin as it's very easy to get there by train and will only cost you Eur 3.20 compared to the Eur 25 / Eur 30 that they were looking for, you can then book a Potsdam tour that leaves outside the train station for Eur 15.00

Amazingly beautiful gardens, a bit out the way but a great place for a picnic or to chill out in. Better if not raining though!

This is a huge and beautiful park. We came early in the morning and had it almost to ourselves, only gardeners tending to the plants were there and the occasional jogger. We thought it was great how it was free to enter and people who live in Potsdam can go there for a run or a walk. Even during the heat on the day later one could find a lovely shady spot.

The gardens and architecture of the palaces is truly beautiful. We didn't pay the fee to enter into any of the buildings, but the grounds are lovely. I would recommend a guided tour to learn more about the history. Fair warning: It is a TON of walking, not for the faint of heart. It's a full day to walk the grounds from one end to the other.

How long does it take to visit most things in the park! I’m looking to go on a day trip from Berlin but not sure if I’ll fit everything in!

How do I get to Potsdam from Berlin?
Written September 24, 2017
There are several S-Bahn lines that can get you straight from Berlin to Potsdam. It is very easy if you just look up transit lines out of Berlin.

HI there, If my friend and I were to visit this Potsdam garden at end of may which is between 25th to 30th of May, would it be open?
Written May 6, 2016
The Guide Books we have been using mention "OPEN Apr.-Oct. 10am-6pm Tue-Sun", but the German language german website spsg listing castles and gardens mentions "Opening times Year round daily from 8 o clock till dusk, Valid 01.01.2016 - 31.12.2016 Monday-Sunday: open all day". To avoid disappointment it may be better to avoid the Monday or to have someone check by telephone about the Monday opening if that is the only day you could go.
If you want to visit the palaces (especially Sans Souci and the New Palace) you will need a ticket (you can buy a ticket valid for all castles) but in addition you will need a time slot for each castle separately. We were unable to find an online way to purchase timeslot reservations.
Good luck and enjoy your stay!

Hi, the gardens are really beautiful. Somebody know how can I get there from the center? The trip is for all the entire day? Thank you.
Hola.
