Babelsberg Castle
4.5
About
This Gothic Prussian castle has been largely forgotten in favor of Sanssouci and thus makes for a relatively uncrowded historical experience.

A beautiful building in a wonderful setting. Anyone who comes to Potsdam should definitely take some time to visit the park and the palace and other facilities. The ensemble is even more beautiful than Sanscoussi because it is right on the water.

This is a pristine castle but more than the castle building, the park itself is large with landscaped rolling hills and beautiful buildings scattered throughout. The romantic landscape architecture unfolds as it should with vistas opening around corners, and the tops of castles and other structures peaking over the hilltops as you move between valleys. One of the best walks in the park I've ever had.

An extensive restoration of this castle has just started and it is closed to visitors. The best one can do is walk around the outside and enjoy the view down to the river.

Awesome place between Berlin and Potsdam - great castle and park being renovated at the moment becoming more and more beautiful :-)
Great spots in walking distance like Klein-Glienecke and Glienecker BrĂĽcke with interesting cold-war history.

The park around the castle is lovely, with great views across the Griebnitzsee and surrounding area. There are some good walks and a range of historic buildings. The castle itself is undergoing renovation, and at the time of our visit was closed, much of its facade in a sad state.

Another one of the historical and lovely castles in Potsdam. The castle grounds was beautiful and pleasant to walk. You can walk up the hills or in the forest or by the lake shores. The scenery was simply very charming.

I thought no other castle in the area could come close to the splendor of Sanssousi, but Babelsberg castle, now restored, is also impressive, utterly peaceful and a joy to visit. The view from the terraces is magnificent, and the garden - an architectural marvel at the time - simply stunning. Spend some time at the castle, where you can read up on the development and challenges of creating the gardens. We found a visit to Babelsberg castle utterly rewarding. Stunning river and lake views, with the Glienicki bridge in full view. (also called the spy exchange bridge) If you are interested in architecture, you will have found another jewel in the Prussian history.
Stop off at the "kleines Schloss" - within the park - for a drink or light lunch. Not bad.

Potsdam is one of the important tourist small town in Germany close to Berlin. From Berlin HBF it takes 30mts max to reach Potsdam. You get off the train and take a bus or tram to this Sanssouci Palace spot. It is the most beautiful attraction in Postsdam. This is the UNESCO heritage attraction. These palaces are holding exhibitions or seminars or Uni. affiliated activities. You plan a day to walk around each Palace to see the most beautiful architecture ..we visited the Potsdam University also worth seeing.

Super nice castle, great restored and very well maintained. The garden around it also looks beautiful. Invites you to linger. Unfortunately, the castle cannot be visited from the inside.
